“Shujiko! Shujiko!”
You woke up to someone yelling in your face. It was a familiar metal face, on the verge of crying, if she had tear ducts that is.
“H…hey Hotaru.”
The reduced robot girl hugged you as best she could with only one and a half arms. She was still missing her right arm and entire lower body, but she seemed able to function fine.
“Thank whatever you’re okay. What are you doing here?”
“I’m…here to rescue you,” you say weakly. “Obviously.”
“But your leg!” Oh yeah, your leg. You look down, what’s left of it is wrapped up in some cloth. “I told you I can’t fix organics. All I could think of was to wrap it up to stop your coolant from leaking. I…I’m obviously not worth that risk. I’m just a defective robot.”
You hold Hotaru tighter against you. “That’s okay. Whether you’re defective or a perfect machine, it's what makes you the you that I love. Everything about you, that’s worth risking everything to me.”
“I…That’s not logical…”
You stop her from talking down about herself by lifting her chin and kissing her. “I love you Hotaru.”
“...I love you too, Shujiko.”
The moment was interrupted by an alarm.
“WARNING: ORGANIC MATERIAL DETECTED IN DISMANTLING MACHINE. DEPLOYING MAINTENANCE DRONES'' a female robotic voice said over the PA.
“That doesn't sound good.”
“We need to get ou-owowow!” You tried to get up, but the best you could do was push yourself up against the wall.
“Don’t move too much, you’re still hurt.”
“Okay, but how are you supposed to get out of here?”
“I…uh…” Hotaru looked down. She only had one arm to use. She could probably push herself out of her, but that would leave you behind which she didn’t want to do at all.
A door suddenly opened above them. Out came several clean white robot girls. One turned her head and immediately saw you and Hotaru. “Found: Human, Intruder, Injured. Found: Robot, Defective, Resisting Dismantlement.” The drones started marching over to you.
You held Hotaru closer, a gesture she repeated, in some desperate attempt to avoid getting separated again.
Suddenly a large mass landed in the middle of the maintenance drones, causing a cloud of dust to obscure them. What you could see was the mass taking out each of the droids, knocking off their heads, breaking them in half, tearing them apart.
As the dust settled, you finally saw who saved you.
“Ai!” you and Hotaru said at the same time.
“Hello ladies. I’m ba- Oh my god, Shujiko! Your leg!” Ai interrupted her own attempt to sound cool in her panic for your health.
“Yeah, it happened,” you say. “Can we focus on getting out of here first?”
“Uh, yeah. I guess you both need me to carry yet.”
“That’d be appreciated, yes,” Hotaru said.
“Right, here.” Ai picked you up first and hoisted you on her broad back and held Hotaru in her arms. You kinda wished you swapped positions with her, but given her size, amount of arms, and the current situation, this was probably more practical.
“Well, since you guys threw stealth out the window, here’s a now unlocked door for you,” Ayano’s voice suddenly said in your ear. A door opened in front of Ai. “This should lead you back to the Warehouse where Kiyoko is.”
“Oh geez, she has to deal with that Sonya lady all on her own in all this,” you realized out loud.
“Hopefully she’s alright,” Ai said.
“Kiyoko? From school? What’s she doing here?” Hotaru asked.
“She came with us to help,” Ai said.
“Also she’s my new girlfriend,” you added.
“What?!”
You would explain everything later. For now, Ai ran through the door back into the warehouse.
