A knock at the door

You were woken up by a knock. You sat up and wipe your eyes, which is weird, you don’t remember crying to sleep. The knock repeats, urging you to answer.

“Jeez, I’m coming, I'm coming.” You made your way to the door as you rubbed your eyes. Your eyes however would come to a welcome sight.

“Hi! Shujiko Kou, right? Kiyoko, head of the college paper,” the redheaded girl said with a small bow.

Holy shit! Kiyoko is at your door? She was one of the other protagonists from the game. You’d spent so much time with the others, you’d forgotten to meet her. And dang, she looked gorgeous. She was a normal human like you, no alien or mechanical features whatsoever. Not that that was a bad thing, she was still a gorgeous (now college-age) girl with beautiful red hair, large orange eyes, and an even more enticing figure than in the game. You however, had just woken up from an emotional nap and felt like a mess. Great first impression all around.

“Uh, Hi! I-I’m- Wait, how did you know my name?” you said suppressing your harem desire for answers.

“I just said, I’m from the college paper: “Space School Gazette.” I keep track of all the happenings on the ship and post articles about them online. Although I don’t really need to rely on my journalist instincts to hear about what you just went through.”

“Oh. Word travels fast?” you guessed. Although it probably happened a couple hours ago by this point, it still surprised you that people were ‘hearing’ about it already. “So, what do you want? You wanna interview me or something?”

“Mm, sort of. Do you mind if I come in? You might wanna sit down for this.”

You agreed. After you closed the door behind her, Kiyoko sat in the only chair in your dorm room while you sat on the bed.

“So what DO you want?” you ask.

“I wanna offer you a deal, Ms Kou.”

“A deal?” you rose an eyebrow in confusion.

“Indeed. As great of a story Ms. Minegasaki’s ‘repossession’ of your loved ones would be…” You twinged at the objectifying yet not-inaccurate use of repossession, “...I’m not the type to leave readers with an unhappy narrative. It would really bum them out.”

“So…you want me to somehow add a happy ending to it?”

“Indeed, and I can help you achieve that, if you’ll accept my help that is,” Kiyoko offered happily.

“Hm… I don’t know how I feel about dishonest journalism.”

“Dishonest? No no no, Ms Kou. I only publish the truth in my articles. What I am offering is making that happy ending a reality.”

“Uh, what do you mean?”

“I can get your girlfriends back.”

“What?!” you stood up in shock. “You can do that?” You couldn’t believe it but were excited about the possibility.

“Not on my own. I do have a plan, but I can’t do it on my own. YOU will have to agree to go along with what I say. How does that sound?”

This was too good to be true. Not only did you get to meet Kiyoko, she was offering to get the rest of your harem back. Which is why you were suspicious of her already. “What’s in it for you? Why help me?” She still wasn’t your girlfriend yet, she was just someone offering something you would definitely need to return the favor for.

“Two things,” Kiyoko showed one finger to illustrate. “1. I want to write about EVERYthing about what goes on. You and all your girlfriends will need to agree to share any details I ask for so I can publish them in my articles about this daring tale of rescue.”

This one required some thought. You didn’t mind spilling your own life if it meant saving everyone else, even the parts of you benign isekaied to this world. But the others? They might want their privacy respected. Although if this girl could follow through in saving them, maybe they’d go along with it better, especially if you were there to convince them. “Deal. What else?”

Kiyoko raised her thumb. “Second: Once we’re done, I’ll become your girlfriend too.”

“R-really?” You weren’t complaining, but offering that as part of this deal was strange.

“I have a personal project of mine that I’m working on, sort of a ‘long form journalism’ type thing. I’m studying the nature of polycule relationships and their evolution in real life AND their depictions in historical media, such as ancient manga. Specifically the types based around multiple partners in love with one person, most commonly called a ‘harem’.”

Oh, so she still had that harem obsession in the future, huh?

“I’ve done plenty of research through observation, first and second hand sources, interviews, tons of stuff. The last piece of my magnum opus is my own first hand experiences in a harem. So, I think it would be a great opportunity if you let me join yours. So, how does that sound? Do we have a deal?” Kiyoko stood up and held her hand for you to shake.

Honestly? You would’ve agreed to become her girlfriend even without the deal. You take her hand and shake on the agreement.

“Excellent! I think this is a great start to both our business AND romantic relationship,” Kiyoko said as if she were waiting to say that for the whole conversation.

“So, this ‘plan’ of yours,” you say refocusing the topic. “Will it just be the two of us?”

“No, there’s someone else whose help we’ll need. Someone…”
