Hacking is like gaming, right?
Harem Protagonist: CHYOA
Chapter 27
Kiyoko led you to the game room. For a school gameroom, it was quite impressive. It was a decent size, and there was tons of advanced technology lining the walls for use. However the only thing in use was attended by the sole occupant of the room. A small, shaggy haired girl was playing some type of video game. It looked quite primitive given this sci-fi setting. The graphics looked more like they were from the 2000s and not the 2500s. And the player character seemed to be a low poly, purple haired girl in futuristic armor with ‘tctf’ on the back. Is this just what video games are like in the future? you wonder.
“Excuse me, are you busy, Ayano?” Kiyoko asked.
“Yes,” Ayano answered straightly.
“Okay, then I’ll just talk while you work.”
Ayano let out a quiet grumble, although from what you remember from the dating sim, this was probably the better option in terms of talking to her.
“My client…and new girlfriend here is in need of some assistance-”
“Since when did you have a girlfriend?” Ayano asked with slightly more interest but still not taking her eyes off the screen.
“W-I don’t see how that’s relevant.”
“You write articles about mostly female polycules all the time, yet never had a relationship on your own. The entire school knows this about you.”
You looked over and saw Kiyoko’s eyes twitch. Her energetic, kind personality was falling apart at the seems.
“Look, Ayano. We need your mad hacking skills to save Ms Kou-”
“You can just call me Shujiko,” you add.
“You sure she’s your girlfriend?” Ayano asked skeptically.
“Ugh! Stay on topic! I have a plan to save her girlfriends, who that lady, Yaeko Minegasaki, took from her earlier today, but I need your skills to do it. AND I can make it worth your while.”
“I’m not interested in real life romance,” Ayano said.
As opposed to…virtual romance? Honestly that tracks with her, you thought.
“No no, I was talking about this.” Kiyoko held out some kind of advanced, futuristic device that looked exactly like a save icon. However, it was what was written on the save icon that was most important.
Ayano saw it with her peripheral vision, but the sight of it earned an entire head turn from her. Your eyes were wide too. What Kiyoko held in her hand was apparently a physical copy of “Harem Protagonist”, the video game they were all from. Wait, no it isn’t, you misread the title. It’s actually “Harem Main Character.” How the heck did you misread that? You wonder.
“I…I thought that game was lost media,” Ayano said.
“Nope,” Kiyoko corrected. “Turns out it was saved in an ancient, 21st century computer I checked out in a museum when researching old harem video games. The data’s all scrambled and incomplete after 500 years of decay, but I’m sure a computer wiz like you is able to sort it out.”
Ayando reached for it but Kiyoko moved away from her. “Ah ah ah. I’m gonna hold on to this for security reasons. Meanwhile, I’m gonna go to Mars and later Heinlein to get Shizuka’s girlfriends back. So, if you want the game, you’re gonna have to make sure I get back alive AND successful, because I won’t come back empty handed.”
Ayano looked distraught over what she heard. She was eager for any old game she hadn’t played yet. “Ugh, fine, I’ll help you.” Ayano closed her game and put down her controller. After that, she pulled a cord from her pocket and plugged one end into her phone and the other directly into her eye, causing you to cringe in discomfort at the action. The lens in her glasses apparently retracted to allow the cord through. “Iz’mu-Iktak and a Hotar-U model, right?”
“Uh, yeah. But the robot’s name is Hotaru though.”
“Yeah, don’t worry. I found her already. Hotar-U model that was recently struck out and is now scheduled for scrapping. Got her location already. She’s at a scrap yard on Montown, Mars.”
“Great job, Ayano. And the Millitovan?” Kiyoko said.
“In possession of the Heinlein Corporation. The company’s been suffering financially for a while, so it’s selling off its assets, including its slave labor force. Iz’mu was put up last week in an auction scheduled to happen next week.”
“An auction?” you asked, worried.
“So that explains why she came to repossess her. She needs money to save her company, and a young adult millitovan female is probably worth a lot in Heinlein,” Kiyoko inquired.
“Y-you said it’s next week. We have to hurry to help her,” you urge.
“Hold on, my plan requires saving her last.”
“W-why?”
“Because saving her will be the hardest, but saving your robot girlfriend will make that easier since she can help too. Don’t worry, if everything turns out well, we’ll have just enough time to save her before she’s auctioned off.”
You thought about what she said, specifically about getting help. “What about Ai?”
Kiyoko’s confident smile faded. “No offense but… with her cybernetics being taken away, I’m not sure how she can help us.”
“But she’s friends with them, I’m sure she’d be willing if we get her some new ones, right?”
“Yeah, but she’s still here at the academy. She’s not in danger like the others, so I kind of planned on her staying here and uh… I don’t know, just wait for you to return with them? Then you guys sort out her cybernetics situation?”
You were a little frustrated about how she disregarded Ai like that in her considerations, but you let it slide. She did have a point after all. “I still think I should ask if she wants to at least come with us. Just so she knows about everything AND in case she can help with something.”
Kiyoko sighs. “Okay, I guess that won’t hurt.”
“Thanks Kiyoko. And Ayano, thank you too.” You leant down and gave her a hug, accidentally smushing her head against your breasts, causing you both to blush.
“Hey, how come I didn’t get a hug? I'm your girlfriend here,” Kiyoko complained.
You rolled your eyes and gave her a hug too.
“Thank you.”
With that sorted you left the room. Kiyoko continued smoothening out her plan while Ayano kept blushing from your sudden show of affection.
You made it to Ai’s dorm and knocked on her door. “Come in, it’s open,” you hear from the inside. You enter her room, ready to ask if she wants to come on your rescue mission.
“Excuse me, are you busy, Ayano?” Kiyoko asked.
“Yes,” Ayano answered straightly.
