Ai ran along the dark tunnel with your hanging on tightly on her back.

“Come on Ai, go faster!” you urged.

“I’m going at top speed. I haven’t used my real legs for-” Ai was interrupted by a door ahead of her opening up, revealing a storage shelf coming right towards her.

“Ai, slow down!” you yelled, partially aware of your contradiction.

“Nay! This is our chance to pierce through!” Ai leaped into the air, maneuvering into the largest (yet still narrowest gap) between the shelf and the wall and landed inside the shelf itself. Contrary to how you saw it before, it was emptied of robots. This did nothing to deter or slow Ai down, as she continued rushing down until she leaped out of the shelf again, this time landing on the other side. Just in front of you two was the door that it went through, only now it was closing as quickly as it opened.

“Will you make it?” you asked.

“No. But you?”

“Me?”

Ai grabbed your arm and spun around, and threw you like an olympic discus.

“What the HEEELLL!!!” you yelled as you cartwheeled between the closing doors. Luckily, you didn’t fall that far down, and you were fortunate enough to land on rubber, but it still hurt like hell. “Owww,” you groaned.

“I’ll find another way in Shujiko,” you heard Ai’s voice say in your ear. “You find Hotaru.”

“G-got it.” You sat up and took in your surroundings. The entire room was illuminated by a menacing red light. Below you was a strip of dark, segmented rubber. It seemed to be moving you to the other side of the room. Putting these two clues together made you realize you were on a conveyer belt of some sort. And around you were various deactivated robots, both in one piece and broken apart. Was this where the robots from 2B were dropped? you wondered.

Searching through the piles of metal, you saw something very horrifying. A series of massive blades with their edges glowing blue. You never saw them before, but your dormant memories that the plot finally remembered existed told you these were plasma blades, hot and sharp enough to cut through any metal. They were perfect for the job of chopping up all the robots that passed under them into pieces. These alone would’ve been concerning, but what made the sight horrifying was Hotaru’s deactivated body heading right towards them.

“Hotaru!” You ran over to her, manuevering around all the machinery at your feet until you were able to drop onto your knees by her. You try to lift her so you can get her off of the conveyer belt and away from the blades. Unfortunately, her legs are pinned by the larger robot you saw sitting next to her earlier.

“Shit, come on! Come on!” You try pulling, pushing, finding something to leverage. But the blades are so close now, it’s only a matter of seconds before she’s chopped to pieces.

“God damn it. Okay, I can do this.” You got a really risky plan but it was the best you got. First you grabbed her arm. Then you moved as close to the edge of the convery belt as you could without letting go. Both your arms and hers are stretched to their limit. You gazed up at the closest plasma blade. It’s dropping down about every 2 seconds. You’d need to time this as closely as possible.

“One…Two…” you counted, more to energize yourself up than anything. “Three!” The blade fell down, cutting Hotaru’s body in half. You summoned all your strength to throw her upper half off the conveyer belt down to the floor below. As the blade came down again, you jumped after her, ignoring the sharp pain in your thigh as you do.

You land on the floor with a hard thud. It’s unfortunately not as soft as the converer belt (which wasn’t a high bar to beat. What a pathetic attempt by the floor). You lift yourself up on your hands, trying your best to work through the pain in your body. You look down to see why your leg isn’t responding to your demands to move. Turns out, it’s gone.

Your right leg now ends right at the knee in a charred stump. At least the plasma cauterized the wound, so you’re not bleeding too much. The shock of losing your leg is starting to set in now that you actually see it for real. However, part of your brain is still focused enough to make you focus on your real goal.

You crawl your way over to Hotaru, only your rapidly draining adrenaline keeping you conscious enough to do so. Hopefully you saved enough of her so she can at least turn on. Her body currently ends just below her batteries, so she’d at least have her power source. Her right arm also caught by the blade, it currently ends below her shoulder. Hopefully, everything else she needs is still on her. If she can turn on, that’d be good. If you didn’t, then well at least you tried. You were suddenly getting too tired to care about that. You really needed to rest your eyes.

No, wait. First turn on Hotaru, yeah. You do that, you hold down the button for what you think is the right amount of time. Wait, did she still have enough battery to turn on? Mm. Either way, you’ll find out after a…quick…nap…so tired.
