"STOP N' BURGER!!!!!" One pony screeched, somehow standing taller than the rest of the crowd. Her cries roared like wildfire throughout the horde into a raging mob, all thrashing against another to chase the waning scent of barbecue sauce outside of the road.

"Shit!" Alissa cursed, swerving the car closer to the rugged off-road. Horace and Ian couldn't do anything, forced to watch as the ponies stampeded towards them with a crazed heat in their eyes, their hands ready and reaching to tear the car apart.

But the ponies finally met the implications of their body shapes and stumbled around against the slope of earth off the road, uselessly tumbling down onto the ground to be piled on by other rotund equines rolling head over heels, making for an effective barrier from outside the highway. Horace actually snickered, the first real laugh he remembered having over the past few days.

"Hey, hey, I think we're gonna make it!" Alissa said excitedly. She actually started turning back towards the road, still with plenty of space between them and their aggressors. The wheels quaked against the stone bed as she veered back onto the clear highway, but with a mighty bump that would've sent everybody inside into the roof, the car came to an immediate halt, its back wheels spinning uselessly inches above the ground. "What the fuck?!"

"Shit!!!" Ian yelped. Once again they were trapped to the mod, who were quickly lucid to the downed van. Alissa furiously wrenched at the key, the wheels, the brakes, the drive shift, anything that could get them running away from the incoming mob, but nothing could free them.

Without even a shrug, Ian leaned forward and threw back all his weight onto the seat, going back and forth, either wigging out with panic or trying to help the dying cause. Whatever the case, Horace joined in, making for a cacaphony grating at the back of Alissa's head.

"WOULD YOU GUYS CUT THAT SHIT O-"

But the car rocketed off with such speed that they nearly soared off the other end of the road, pouring great distance between them and the mob that was only seconds from turning them over. Havign barely missed a severe case of whiplash, Horace and Ian peered through the back window at the ponies they were steadily losing, all of them angrily cursing one another for their failure on the chase.

At the very front of the crowd, Ian could see a yellow stallion, angrily waving his hat around.

"They followed us." He said quietly. "They followed us all this way, the entire time."

"We gotta keep moving." Alissa said simply. "That's all we can do now, no matter what happens."

"We're gonna get through this." Horace said hopefully, but the others were silent. All there was to be heard was the sound of the car running, and the muffled cries of the ponies behind...

.....

Horace watched the top of Alissa's head carefully, whose steady posture was starting to wobble. Her head was teetering forward, but when it bobbed forward he gently yanked at a lock of her black hair running under her head cushion, pulling a small yelp from the driver.

"Thanks, Horace..."

"Hey, anything that keeps us from crashing."

"We can't keep driving all the way there." Ian noted. "We're gonna have to stop sometime, to get some rest."

Horace and Alissa looked uneasy at the idea, but argued nothing against. "Where can we go?" Alissa asked.

"The sign said we're a few exits from Milwaukee. We'll pull over there and see how things are, then check if there's a hotel or anything we can hang tight at."

Alissa swerved them just in time to dive the car into an exit with a sign for Milwaukee.
