"What the hell is this?" Alissa said, slowing down the car.

"It's--it's, ah."

It was ponies, of course. Hundreds of them. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of them, in fact, all crowding the highway from one side to the other, blocking it up more thoroughly than a thousand barricades could have.

"Oh, hell!" Alissa said, starting to turn the car around. "They're gonna--"

"STOP! Stopstopstop!" Ian said, pointing out the window. "They're not paying attention to us at all!"

And, so Horace observed, that appeared to be the case. "What do you think they're doing?" he said to no one in particular. "Seems to be going somewhere, but--"

"Maybe they're looking for a stockpile of Stop N' Burger." Ian said. "And they're just combing the countryside for every last hayburger they can find."

"I'd like to say otherwise...but, well, it's probably exactly what they're doing." Horace said.

"I can drive alongside the highway." Alissa said. "The ground there is flat enough that I can do it just long enough to get ahead of them."

Ian blanched. "Are you nuts? We can't get near those lunatics? They'll be on us in a heartbeat!"

"We have speed and flexibility on our side." Alissa said. "If we do this right, we'll be away from them in less than a minute."

"...We really don't have a choice here, as I see it." Horace said. "Any other route would take hours and hours more....and, well, it's looking like we don't have the time for that."

"All right, fine." Ian said. "Just don't be surprised when they pull us out of the car and try to lick Stop N' Burger residue off us or something."

Somewhat slower than before, Alissa drove the car further and further towards the army of ponies, before swerving to the right and pulling the car onto the side of the road.

"They must be utterly out of it." Ian said. "If thy still haven't noticed the only car on the road for miles and miles around."

As Horace observed through the front window, that seemed to be entirely the case. Although he could only catch momentary glimpses of faces in the crowd, Horace quickly noticed the expression on each and every face in the crowd, that of what could only be described as dull-eyed stupor. Their eyes were glazed, their faces were blank, and their mouths were locked in expressions of pain...or, so Horace supposed, extreme need.

"Now or never, then." Alissa said. "Best of luck to all of us."

Choice 1: Against all expectations, the three manage to get around the army of ponies and escape.

Choice 2: Nope, no such luck.
