A Tiny Child
Chapter 13
The three of you work together, struggling as hard as possible. Just as you were about to give up, the hatch opens. Without thinking, the three of you climb in. Adam grabs his phone and gives it to you.
"Call your house number. It may be our only shot." He said quickly. You nod and dial it. Luckily, there was a phone in her bedroom. You just hope that a) she picked it up and b) believed you. The house phone rang as soon as she set your cupcake down on the table. You were filled with hope as she answered.
"Hello?" Mom asked.
"Mom! It's me, Jake! My friends and I are in serious trouble." You say. You watch her face as she gets a worried expression.
"What's happening?"
"I… um… sort of built a hovercraft using instructions from the internet. We're on the cupcake you set on the table. We're covered in frosting and the hovercraft is trapped, please believe me." You say. You watch her face as she leans in towards you to get a better look. However, apparently, she still couldn't tell where you were as she left the room. "Wait where are you going?"
"Hold on, I'm getting a magnifying glass. I swear if you're pulling a prank, you are in so much trouble."
"It's not a prank." You really hoped she found you. She soon came back with a magnifying glass and peered closer. As soon as she saw you, she dropped the phone.
"J-Jake! Oh my… it… it is you! I almost ate you!" She said. She lifted out her hand so that you and your friends could step on it.
"That… was… so… close." Scott said. Both you and Adam nodded. Mom then used her other hand to feel around her cupcake until she found the hovercraft. You couldn't tell if she was really angry, or just upset. She took all of you downstairs and got you washed up. You went into the living room and were placed on the table.
"Jake. Do you understand what just happened? If you hadn't called, I would have eaten you, I would never have found you." She said, looking like she was about to cry.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I just wanted to explore the house without help." You said. Your friends also apologized. You felt bad, you didn't like to see her like this. "I know what you want to do, just destroy it already." You said. The boys looked like they wanted to argue, but after what happened, they couldn't argue.
"……… No."
"What?" You and your friends asked. You were starting to think this was a dream.
"Jake… I love you, but… I can't protect you forever. Someday, you'll be out on your own. Therefore, I will allow you to keep your hovercraft, but there will be rules. First off, you are not to go near any food in this house without telling me. Second, you must have a phone with you at all times." You nodded and told her you sort of lost yours during the chaos. She sighed. "I will get you another. As for rule 3, for now, you are only allowed to use your vehicle in the house. At least, until you get better at driving." She said. Your friends cheer, and you get on your knees.
"Thank you! Thank you so much."
"You know you will be grounded for a week since you left school early, right?" She said. You nodded, still happy. Later on, your friends go home, you all agreed not to tell their parents what happened. You lost games and seeing your friends for a week. Eventually, your sister came home and the two of you told her what happened.
"Of course he was in trouble. Just like always." She said. The next day…
