Defensive instincts fire off through your mind and body with being informed you are nothing more than food to something. Adrenaline bursts into your system and you raise your hands to defend against a grabbing hand or maybe teeth. With their release on the stalk your right foot slides further into the void and now up to your right knee. Hurriedly your throw your hands claw, swim, and scrape their way through the muck back to the stalk and try to pull yourself back up to where you were. No progress but you don’t sink further. Still you look for the voice but find nothing.

However it does overpower your neck and your back is forced to twist and go with it’s force. Whatever it is will win this tug of war sooner rather than later. Desperately you spare a hand to try to tear this thing off of you. Your fingers find a layer on your face to work between and you start to pull. It reacts by relaxing it’s pull and loops one more coil around your neck, crushing your hand to your neck and it resumes pulling. Unable to pull your hand away and unwilling to risk releasing the stalk, there is nothing to do but try to see what has you. Slowly you twist yourself around to see and you find
