The bamboo provides an excellent place to hide, the leaves and the stalks obscure any would be vision from above. Silently you wait, in the shade, the ground feels weirdly soft and warm, quickly your feet start sinking into the sandy mud mixture making up the soil. Quicksand? Not quicksand, just very muddy it seems. Every few minutes you have to grab a stalk and pull your feet up and out of the muck. While hiding you expected to see giant insects, forgetting you were still normal sized and everything is scaled for giants on this side of the wall. At some point the door will open and you can get out of here, maybe being a giant would be fun, if nothing else she could give the woman who threw you in here a good stern look eye to eye. Perhaps learning how to loom over people would be great practice for your business degree.

The musing in your head is interrupted by voices of people approaching. They must be from the inside, that door blocks almost all sound. Not wanting to squander this opportunity you gently pull your feet from the muck again, making sure not to shake the bamboo and announce your presence. Your position in the back of the bamboo certainly blocks your view, but it should make you invisible to any giants not looking for you. The voices continue to approach and you can’t see anything, that doesn’t matter, the beep from the door lock will let you know when you have to be ready to break cover and run for it. Your path through the bamboo is mapped for as much silence as possible. The voices must be right in front of you.

BEEP!

The door is swung open. A pair of humanoid giant legs are barely visible, on the path, both wearing sandals with small wedges. The door is swing wide and both sets of legs walk through, plenty of time to escape. Your legs fire like pistons launching you forward. Or they would have if the mud didn’t buckle under your feet and you fall flat in the dirt. You waste no time extracting yourself form the muck, your arms and legs plummet into the soupy earth but eventually find enough purchase to free yourself. There is still enough time to get through the door providing you don’t get stopped on the way out.

Above you hear the bamboo rustle sharply and a cheerful feminine bombard you from above, “Hi there!”
