"Well, I don't know about you guys," Rainbow yelled. She had split off from the group and had waded into the sea until her ankles were completely underwater. A massive grin spread over her face as she turned to her friends, especially eyeing up Applejack.
"But I could go for a swim. I'll look for humans later, but for now, I just want to enjoy being at the beach! It's been like, what, two years since the last time? And this is an alien beach on top of that! That's so awesome."
"Well, hope ya' don't mind me comin' along," Applejack smiled, walking towards her friend, every step of hers blowing up the sandy beach beneath her.
"Of course not!" Rainbow Dash answered. She looked at Applejack's towering form and a smirk crossed her lips. "I was actually thinking... what about a race?"
"Would never say no to that, Rainbow," Applejack laughed. She turned back to the others. "We'll have our fun here, alright?"
"Alright!" Twilight said. She intended to make contact and study the humans. Pinkie would be tagging along, because... she wanted to? Or maybe she thought she would have the best chance of getting her hands on the local cuisine that way. Meanwhile, Fluttershy and Rarity had paired up, both intending to see the sights and get a closer look at the human cities. Fluttershy, of course, only wanted the best and hoped to make some cute, new friends!
"We'll be meeting back here when it gets dark, okay? I'll try to get us a place to sleep, but if I can't, we'll just go back to Equestria. Princess Celestia taught me the spell to open the portal."
Everyone nodded, and soon, only Rainbow Dash and Applejack were left on the beach, both stretching their arms and legs in preparation for their race. Rainbow smirked at her friend.
"You ready?"
"As much as I could be. No wings?"
"Really?"
"Come on. Lets keep it fair. Its a swimming race, after all."
"Fine."
"Alright. Let me just..." Applejack laid her trusty hat onto the ground. Normally she wouldn't just leave it like that, but she doubted that anything on this planet would be able to steal it. And she barely felt a breeze. It would definitely still be there for her once she got back.
"Now," Rainbow said, getting ready to jump into the sea, "Three. Two. One."
As if they were copies of each other, both Rainbow Dash and Applejack leaped forwards at the exact same time, both plunging themselves into the comfortably cool water. They didn't even notice that they unleashed tsunami like waves with their weight, which rolled over the coast. Thankfully, the humans had evacuated as soon as they saw the six titans. Still, it had only taken a single movement of them to destroy multiple villages simply by jumping into the water.
Of course, property damage on a minuscule scale was the last thing on their minds right now. There was a race to win! But as was so often the case, it seemed to be coming to a draw. Neither of them managed to overtake the other and they simply plowed through the water alongside each other, sending wave after wave across the ocean. Minutes passed and they didn't slow down. None of them wanted to concede, and the water felt nice, anyway.
But then, as they swam at unimaginable speeds through the water, Applejack spied something on the water. A boat! Or rather, a ship. A large, white one, looking almost like a swimming house. A cruise ship. The orange mare slowed down and raised her head above water to get a better look. The ship was filled to the brim with humans, all of them looking terrified at the blue blur swimming through the ocean, heading directly towards them. Rainbow Dash, completely absorbed in the competition, hadn't noticed the ship.
Applejack quickly threw herself forward. She knew that she had only a moment to avert disaster. Drawing on all her strength, she pushed herself closer to Rainbow until her tail was in reach. She raised her hand and...
"Ouch! Hey, no fair!" Furious, Rainbow rose out of the water after Applejack had yanked her tail, bringing her to a complete stop. Applejack could only let out a relived sigh. Even now, the cruise ship just feet away from Rainbow, the blue mare hadn't noticed it. She would have just plowed through if she had kept swimming. Now, the humans were only showered by the spray of her emerging from the water.
"What was that for!" Rainbow demanded. She wasn't even mad that Applejack had yanked her tail, only that the competition had been ended prematurely.
"To stop you from hitting that," Applejack simply pointed to the ship.
"Hitting what... Oh!" Finally, Rainbow saw the ship as well, and her face turned apologetic. "I was so absorbed into swimming that I didn't notice that, huh?"
"Well, that's what I'm here for," Applejack slapped her friend on the shoulder, "Now, do you want to keep going?"
Rainbow thought for a moment. Then, she turned her gaze to the ship once more, leaning closer. The humans on board were terrified, but there was nowhere they could go to flee the two titans. Something tingled within Rainbow, a low and unfamiliar feeling. Seeing these helpless creatures, she couldn't help but feel powerful. She knew that there was nothing that could stop her from doing whatever she wanted...
Quickly, though, she shook those thoughts out of her mind and turned to Applejack again.
"Why don't we say hello? I think I need to apologize, anyway. And weren't we supposed to be making contact?"
"How very thoughtful of you," Applejack's eyes narrowed, "Its not like you to let a competition go. You aren't planning anything, are ya'?"
"Maybe I am," Rainbow grinned.
"Well, whatever it is, don't hurt them, alright?"
"Sure, sure. Now, come closer... I want to tell you something..."
Applejack leaned forward and Rainbow Dash started to whisper into her ear. And she told her...
