You had been hearing the entire conversation, and while you weren't entirely sure on Zuemy's decision to let Monique in on these shenanigans, you guessed there could've been worse options. You were on fairly friendly terms with her, or at least you hoped so. A few times before, you had tried comforting her after she expressed a dislike for her body's shape, which was awfully reminiscent of Celeste's body image issues, but unlike her, she wasn't a brat about it and was working hard on trying to improve the situation, and you had just honestly tried to cheer her up, trying to get her to feel comfortable in her body and stuff like that, which in Celeste's case, fell on deaf ears for the most part...
Now, you were sitting in the middle of Zuemy's open palm while Monique's massive brown eyes stared at you and widened in surprise. You felt quite exposed, but managed to keep your cool and stood up to wave at her to further demonstrate that you were indeed real and alive, just in case, you thought, one could never bee too cautious at this size, even if Zuemy said she had made you near invulnerable.
"Hi Blaise!" She said in a surprisingly cheery tone after a moment of silence. Seeing that her eyes lit up, you sensed that they were filled with curiosity. Zuemy, who also noticed, carefully handed you over to Monique, dropping you on her awaiting palm, which raised higher in the air to be closer to her eyes.
"If you hadn't shrunken my bottle before I wouldn't have believed it, holy shit!"
"Tell me about it" You sighed, and hearing your voice only appeared to make her more excited.
"How is it? What is it like to be that small?" She asked you.
"To be honest, it's rather scary, everything's huge. But stuff like the garden is prettier at least" You said, you hadn't precisely gotten a chance to experience the world for a long time at this scale, and most of it had been pretty scary, although you felt somewhat safe with Zuemy after she showed she wasn't exactly up to her usual shenanigans and demonstrating she knew what she was talking about.
"I can't really imagine, but I understand. I remember a movie where this happened to a bunch of kids and they had to fight like bugs and stuff" Monique said.
"So... as I was saying before, I really need to get back to school because I can't miss Science class, it's one of the few places where I can gather the stuff I need to restore him. Would you mind taking him to Veronica? I'm sure you'll run into her much more easily than I will" Zuemy said.
"Can't you unshrink him with the gun?" Monique pointed out.
"Yes and no, it's a bit more complex... inanimate matter is much easier to resize, but while shrinking living matter is not much more difficult, it does consume more energy, and the thing is that growing back living stuff is much harder because it needs lots, and I really mean lots of energy, and the bigger the thing is, the more energy it takes" She explained.
"I developed a chemical fuel for it, but the ingredients to make it aren't too easy to come by in large amounts, so it's gonna take me a while. I'm trying to develop a rechargeable battery for the gun but that'll be after I can fix all of this"
Zuemy then pushed a few more buttons on her gun and aimed it at the tiny bottle, which Monique had set aside. It fired a red beam that engulfed it in an aura of the same color while it grew until it was back to its regular size.
"Since this is an inanimate object and it's just a very small amount of plastic, it didn't take much to restore it... but to get Blaise back to his 6'3" tall self, this thing's gonna need a whole lot more of juice" Monique nodded, she was honestly impressed Zuemy could actually make these things, she knew she was incredibly smart in Science class but never imagined her intellect would go this far.
"Okay, I think I understand" Monique said "And sure. It's definitely not what she's expecting, but I'm pretty sure she'll be really happy to see you again, even if it's like this" She said to you with a kind-looking smile, but her words sent chills down your spine.
"Thank you! I'll meet up with you guys at lunch time!" Zuemy waved goodbye at her and rather hurriedly left, although now you understood why, and in a way you appreciated that she cared this much, though you weren't still entirely sold on being left alone at such a small size with Monique. And then the fact that she just mentioned the 'incident' with Veronica hit you...
