"Alissa." Ian said, staring out the back window. "Go faster, would you?"
Alissa said nothing, and simply stared straight ahead, driving the car as quickly as the machine's inner workings would allow it to move.
Behind them, getting closer and closer with each second, Horace could see the two drivers of the two trucks, both of whom were staring at the three coworkers with downright predatory looks. Despite the fact that, in a sane and rational world, their sheer masses would have rendered the trucks incapable of movement, they were nonetheless speeding on...and getting closer and closer.
"They're actually catching up." Ian said, his mouth quivering as he spoke. "They're getting closer."
Alissa still said nothing.
As the highway became a blur around them, all sight and sound distorted and warped, Horace and Ian watched as the occupants of the two trucks began to say...something to them. What it was, it was impossible to tell, but Horace could only assume that they were either taunting them or demanding hayburgers. Both probably.
The trucks, at long last, came just behind the hatchback, the two occupants now grinning at them and licking their lips. Alissa, with nothing to do other than go froward and hope for the best, simply crossed her fingers and prayed for something to happen to change the odds.
And so, exactly as she hoped, the odds did change....that is, when the hatchback's engine suddenly failed and the car came to a slow, screeching halt, and the two trucks overtook it.
....
"Where are the hayburgers, you buckers?"
The two pegasi loomed over Horace and company as they stood on the side of the highway, looking down at them with expressions of complete and utter rage.
"We. Don't. Have. Any." Horace said, nursing a row of bruises on his arm. "The last ones we saw were from days and days ago. When other ponies ate them."
"You must know where some are!" Spitfire said, her teeth gritted and her eyes slitted. "If you don't tell us where they are--"
"WE. DON'T. KNOW!" Horace said. "And yelling at us isn't going to change a thing!"
Soarin looked to his counterpart. "This is just a waste of time. They don't know anything! They're useless!"
"Listen to him!" Alissa said. "We really, really don't know a thing about any more hayburgers or anyth--"
"SHUT UP!" Spitfire said. "I might not be as fit as I used to be, but if if you don't stop lying I'm going to flatten you!" Her body tilted forward, just a little bit, and Alissa took a few steps backward.
"We're not lying!"
"That's it! Unless I get some answers now, I'm--"
With a few unsteady steps that made the earth shook, Soarin wobbled over to Spitfire, grabbed her by the shoulders, and began to whisper into her ear. As the three coworkers watched, already quite certain that whatever they were going to say was going to be nothing but trouble, Spitfire and Soarin suddenly began to grin again, a smirk on either fat face that promised all manner of trouble.
"All right." Spitfire said, looking down at the three coworkers. "After discussing this...little problem with my associate, we have decided.....
