"Dad? Hey, Dad!"
"Patricia!" a decidedly female voice responds: "How many times do I have to tell you? No shouting in the house! And, anyway, your father's not home from work, yet."
Your initial fear at being shown to Patti's father is suddenly changed to open-mouthed wonder as you gaze at the giant goddess standing before her. A zoftig redhead with green eyes who appears to be in her late thirties or early forties. And, even more astounding? She is just as startled when she sees you, dangling from Patti's left hand!
Or, at least, she was (for about five seconds). After that, she slowly develops a predatory leer.
"Well, well, well! Who do we have, here? Introduce me to your...little friend, Patti."
Your ex-classmate scowls, but complies.
"Margaret? Joe Duncan; an old friend from high school. Joe? My new stepmother: Margaret."
"How do you do, Mrs. Davenport?"
"It's Margaret Kaake, actually," replies the redhead: "I prefer to use my maiden name on all my correspondence. Conversely, my stepdaughter refuses to be called 'Patti Kaake!' "
"Can you honestly blame me?" growls the would-be magician.
"In any case, how did you get like this, Joe?"
Once more, you go with the teleportation mishap story. Following which, Patti asks if you can stay in her room until her father does get home. To which Margaret replies: "On one condition."
