You grin at the use of your old nickname from those gym class basketball games and weakly wave upward.
"Hi, Pat. How's tricks?"
Under normal circumstances, that pun would automatically be groan-worthy. But, of course, these aren't normal circumstances! So, you sought to break the ice with a little levity...and it worked. Patricia is snapped out of her stupor and immediately bends down on one knee to pick you up in her cupped hands.
"What...? How...?"
"Would you believe this is the result of lab accident involving teleportation?"
Once again, you're fibbing. She wouldn't believe the truth, of course. But, frankly, you're getting sick and tired of the "spilled chemicals" story! So, you decided to improvise with a veiled reference to one of your favorite Vincent Price films: THE FLY.
As luck would have it, she believes the new lie.
"Teleportation? Really?! Whoa! What a freaky coincidence!"
You ask her what she means?
"My dad is a scientist for DARPA. The Defense Advance Research Projects Agency? And he's been trying to reverse-engineer a teleportation system, from a certain flying saucer crash, for years! If I show him to you, you might be able to help each other!!!"
"No, wait. Wait! WAIT!" you yell at the top of your lungs as she springs back on to her feet.
