Chapter 11
You were so busy talking to Carmen that you didn't realize how much time went by. You hear the bell ring and get your things and prepare to go meet Tina. Suddenly Carmen blocks your path and crouches down in front of you.
"Here, just to show you how much a good sport I am I'll take you to Tina to save you the trek across the school" offers Carmen, holding out her hand.
You're surprised by how nice she's being all of the sudden. Glad you don't have to walk across school, you step onto Carmen's awaiting hand and she slowly lifts you off the ground. She lets her palm out on her shoulder.
"You can ride on my shoulder, Kenny" she says happily.
You carefully walk onto her shoulder and find a place to sit where you won't lose your balance. Carmen picks up your school supplies and carries them in her free hand. She then walks out of class and down the hallway with you on her shoulder. You're happy to be getting a ride. Normally you'd have to dodge hundreds of pairs of feet. You want to ask her why she's helping you like this when it seems so out of character for her. You hope you'll have the chance to ask her. Right now you feel too shy to ask.
