Due to being enrolled in the Breed Them Young initiative by his mother soon after he was born, Pound was selected among a list of eligible colts to be matched with an older mare as soon as it could be ascertained he could produce sperm. This was to ensure that Equestria's dwindling population can still produce healthy birthrates by breeding colts to needy mares as soon as they are able.
