A small retinue, armed to teeth, were quick to halt in their tracks before the witch's house.
They had planned to take her by surprise, but instead found the cheery woman dangling her feet off of her own rooftop.
How had she known?
In truth, she hadn't.
Gylde had simply gotten distracted while cleaning, and would have been happy with being provided another distraction... if not for the fact that she recognized the retinue's leader.
"Did you not hear the first time? Disappear from my land, or regret ever coming here."
In turn, the count launched into a full-blown pompous speech, but the jeering witch would have none of it. She kept insulting him without waiting for him to finish.
Gylde wasn't interested in his delusions about land ownership or whatever else nobles believed in. She'd work for no one.
"Men!"
With a simple command, the count's retinue drew their weapons and continued their march towards the house. He was DONE with being looked down on by some nobody.
The feeling was mutual.
Gylde got back on her feet and retrieved a potion from her belt pouch, downing it in an instant.
A thunderous rumble halted the troops once more. It was at a magnitude that none of them had heard before, but it was a sound that every human recognized.
The sneering witch's belly growled and gurgled as the potion's forces made it turn. And with a long, deep breath, Gylde let it all out.
Hundreds of colorful bubbles filled the scenery. The perplexed knights were unsure on how to proceed.
"What are you waiting for?! Get in there and--"
The count's yell was cut short. He had vanished from the sight of his men, and they all realized a moment too late what had been the cause.
One by one, all at once, the retinue was dispersed. They found their forms to have been caught within the bubbles, reduced in size to a degree where it felt like being captured in one the size of a house.
The swarm of bubbles swiftly flew back to Gylde in a stream as she inhaled once more.
Before any of the terrified men had to misfortune of passing between the witch's lips, she diverted the flow with her palm back into the bottle.
"You should thank your gods that I already had dinner."
The flask's contents had been fully replaced by a bunch of silly little screaming men.
The cheering witch floated down like one of her bubbles. She knew exactly what she'd do with these rude men.
Gylde giggled to herself as she placed the bottle on a vacant shelf, and began to compose her invitation.
Until she'd be reunited with her beloved, these men would get to live.
