“I wish for you to be free of the lamp,” you say, your voice gaining strength, “and to stay with me.”

 

Zara’s golden eyes widen. “You foolish, sentimental man.” She lets out a dramatic sigh. “Fine. A temporary mortal coil. But I hope you have a heart condition.” She snaps her fingers.

 

A shimmer passes over her. The ethereal glow fades, her hovering form settles onto the dusty floorboards with a soft thud. She stumbles, grabbing your arm for balance. Her skin is still warm, but now it’s just skin. She looks the same, but grounded, real. Annoyance wars with a flicker of pity in her gaze.

 

“There,” she grumbles, flexing her fingers as if they feel strange. “I’m stuck. I’m mortal. And I’m your… what, exactly? Housemate? Nurse? You used a cosmic wish on a lonely old man’s fantasy. So, what is your plan for me?”
