The dust in your cramped attic tasted like forgotten years. You’d been sorting through Margaret’s things, a task you’d put off for a decade. Your knees ached in protest as you reached for a tarnished brass lamp, its surface gritty under your wrinkled fingers. A foolish impulse made you rub the side with your sleeve, as if to see the pattern better.

Smoke, thick and smelling of ozone and cinnamon, erupted from the spout. It coiled in the dim light, solidifying into a woman hovering cross-legged before you. She was… impossible. Skin the color of rich honey, hair a cascade of obsidian curls that fell over her bare shoulders and framed a pair of generous, perfectly shaped breasts. Her eyes, the gold of a setting sun, regarded you with wry amusement.

“...A floral shirt and polyester slacks?” she said, her voice a husky melody. “The standards for masters have truly plummeted.”

You could only stare, your heart a frantic drum against your ribs.

“I am Zara,” she announced, gesturing with a lazy, elegant hand. “You have three wishes. The usual rules apply: no murder, no mind control, no resurrecting the dead. I’d suggest wishing for a new wardrobe, but even my power has its limits.” Her gaze softened as she took in your widower’s ring, the photo of Margaret still on the shelf.

Desire, sharp and unfamiliar, cut through your grief. It wasn't just her breathtaking body; it was the life in her, the sheer vibrant possibility she represented. She was offering to rewrite your lonely epilogue. You looked from her golden eyes to your own age-spotted hands.

What do you wish for?
