[Flashback for Isabel's 1st day continues]
The rest of the day went on without further incidents, mostly because Jen, Lillian and Cindy stayed with you at nearly all times to your embarrassment, and not just at the idea of being "protected" but because they were all getting quite cuddly, as if that sent a message somehow. You noticed Isabel glaring at you several times so the measure worked and it pissed her off. Jen's chest pressed lightly against one of your arms while Cindy's along with her belly brushed the other, making you shudder and get goosebumps all over both arms and the back of your neck.
After a few more class periods, you had one hour of study hall before either going home or joining extracurricular clubs, which thankfully you were no part of. With nothing of worry for the week, study hall effectively meant a free period to hang out with your friends and get some homework out of the way so you headed to your locker to put away the stuff from last class. The girls had already gone on ahead because they wanted to pick up an extra bite with Dolores before heading to the otherwise empty classroom that you used as a student lounge. Just as you had finished putting away your books, before you were even allowed a single thought about what to grab next, the locker was forcefully slammed shut by a girl's hand. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath.
"Goddamit, Isabel, are we really gonna do this dance every single-" You turned around and opened your eyes, giving a look of annoyed exhaustion that instantly evaporated, like water on asphalt at the peak of a heatwave in Arizona "Oh crap"
" 'Oh crap' alright" A pair of dark purple eyes stared at yours intensely with a sheer level of threat only comparable to that of a wild beast. The otherwise pale skin, the notorious scar across the nose and the smug, arrogant grin and slightly larger than average canine teeth were all dead giveaways, only one person matched this exact description...
"Lily" You said quietly "What is it now?" You asked the inevitable question, knowing that there was no diplomatic way in a conversation with this girl.
"You know? I was just gonna give you the Stinkface for a couple of minutes and then be on my merry way but now you've got me intrigued" Toxic Lily spoke as she jabbed you in the chest with her index finger in an accusing manner "Who is this 'Isabel' you were talkin' about? Name doesn't ring any bells"
"What, are you jealous I got another bully?" You replied with a bit of a smirk, finding her immediate reaction amusing. What was not amusing was the way she punched the locker next to your head, denting it.
"Next one goes to your face, smartass!" Toxic Lily definitely meant business and her face was even slightly red with rage, or that's what you believed at least.
"Okay, okay, sheesh" You said "I mean I wasn't lying about the first part... I would've figured you guys were unionized or something. Isn't there some kind of School Crime Syndicate?"
"You mean the one that Zaniki runs?" Toxic Lily raised an eyebrow and scratched her chin.
"What?!"
"What?!"
And thus, there was a brief, awkward silence that Lily broke by grabbing you by the collar of your shirt with one hand and readying her fist with the other. Then, without a warning you heard her saying "Oof!" and let go of your shirt as she bent over, clutching her stomach.
"My, my!" There it was, the other smug voice that you had only met today "I leave you alone for, what, a couple of minutes and you got another barbarian brute coming at you? I might need to really teach you how to deter the undesirables" Isabel smirked at you while holding her wooden rapier, what had jabbed Lily in the stomach mere moments before.
"What the fuck" Toxic Lily muttered as she coughed. That was such a precision hit and it seemed to really have knocked out the wind out of her. She was putting on a tough act but you could tell that it'd take her longer to truly recover "Who the hell are you?!"
"Isabel de Trastámara" The shorter, slimmer girl said with complete confidence, in spite of Toxic Lily's evident physical superiority not unlike Jen's "Unfortunately, I cannot claim to be pleased to make your acquaintance" She added. Seeing Isabel's abject foolhardiness prompted you to act by pure reflex, walking away from Toxic Lily but rather than leaving, you went to her instead.
"Look, I get it. You're the new girl and this is your first day in this school" You started "Every school is a jungle and there are certain rules to follow if you want to even make it out alive. One of the rules here is that you do NOT mess with Toxic Lily. Isabel, you're way out your league on this one"
"Aww, how cute..." Isabel cooed in response, grabbing you by the chin with that condescending, smug grin that seemed to characterize her before "You do worry about me, that's sweet" She chuckled "But do not worry, I can handle her"
"No you can't" You sighed and facepalmed "You couldn't 'handle' Jen, you can't 'handle' Toxic Lily" You replied.
"I couldn't handle Miss Hoe-stein because someone distracted me and she landed a sucker punch!" Isabel narrowed her eyes at you and her face reddened a bit "Are you going to distract me this time?"
"No" You huffed and rolled your eyes "But seriously, get the hell out of h-" You tried to warn her but she shushed you by pressing a finger against your lips.
"I'm not afraid of this brute, dear. I normally don't do this for free but consider it an act of charity that I teach this peasant some manners today" She said to Lily, who was visibly fuming.
"YOU WHAT, BITCH?!" Toxic Lily charged at her with the fury of a bear but Isabel didn't flinch. Already with the rapier in hand, she struck one of her shins and made her trip embarrassingly right before her as the pain shot up her leg and she shouted a barrage of profanities.
'What just happened?' You found yourself baffled. How did this girl get Toxic Lily on the floor just like that? Was it always that easy? Granted, she has a freaking wooden rapier and nobody ever fought Lily with any sort of weapon but still. Holding true to her reputation, Toxic Lily got up once more in a matter of seconds and charged at Isabel once more, trying to wildly grab her: You knew the move, she would grab someone and then slam their back against the metal lockers. Someone Isabel's size could break from that kind of force, the girl looked like she was half of Lily's weight at best.
Just as it had been with Jen at the beginning of their fight, Isabel simply slipped past her attempted grabs every time, weaving between them with footwork that even a pro boxer would look at and pay attention. 'The hell does this girl do in her free time?' You wondered. When Isabel couldn't dodge properly, she parried with her trusty rapier and the smacking noises that wood against flesh made echoed across the hallway. You could tell that those stung for sure. Growing more enraged, Lily started throwing punches instead but that didn't change the outcome at all.
"How disgusting!" Isabel said, poking Lily in the chest as she huffed and puffed, trying to regain her breath after a solid 5+ minutes of this impromptu cat and mouse chase "Are all these bloated udder cows mindless brutes or am I just on a streak? Because this makes two in a row" Isabel added, painfully jabbing Lily in one of her boobs with the rapier "Had enough?" Then she taunted her.
Toxic Lily instantly looked up at her with unbridled rage. Not only had the new girl been insulting her nonstop, she had been humiliating her during this fight and making a clown out of her when she should've been teaching her how sore of a mistake it was to try messing with Toxic Lily of all people in this school. In spite of not having completely recovered, the adrenaline forced her into an all-out attack and she kept attacking with ever increasing ferocity. You noticed that Lily was getting faster and Isabel was parrying more and more as she couldn't dodge as flawlessly as she could earlier. Her breathing got heavier too so she must've been getting tired as well.
Without even really thinking much anymore, Toxic Lily managed to knock the wooden rapier off Isabel's hand, making her eyes widen as she suddenly felt defenseless. Lily then let out a deep growl as she charged at her once more... but she didn't make contact, instead slamming into the lockers from the side as you shoulder-tackled her. You had seen that things were just about to get way uglier and acted on pure impulse. You kicked the wooden sword upwards to pick it up and then handed it back to Isabel as you grabbed her by the wrist and prepared to rush the hell out of there before Lily recovered from that brief daze. However, you encountered yet another presence you wouldn't have wanted to run into.
"The Principal" You muttered, feeling the blood in your whole body running cold. Even Toxic Lily froze in place. 'Damn, this is bad. Who knows how much detention she's going to give me and then call my parents over this nonsense' You clenched your teeth. She seemed to be staring daggers at you so there was no way around it, you'd have to address the elephant in the room. Trying to muster whatever semblance of courage you had left, you took a deep breath.
"Ms. Abalos, I know my credibility's not the best but I assure you that this is not what it looks like" You said, trying to buy yourself some time to drum up a believable enough alternate version of what transpired.
"It's not necessary, I saw what happened" She replied in that intimidating, stone-cold voice. And yet, for a split second she looked odd upon seeing your reaction at her, almost as if she were hurt but that's crazy, she hates your guts, right? Yeah, it can't possibly be anything else, perhaps you've reached an even lower tier in her shitlist. Baffled, you blinked twice in confusion.
"You did?" You asked, unsure if yourself or her out of sheer disbelief "I mean, how much-"
"I witnessed the entire exchange" Arianna sighed "And you, Miss-guided, you're coming with me"
"That's not even my last-" Lily weakly protested, still recovering from your surprise attack it seemed.
"Silence!" Arianna stomped on the floor, making a loud "clack!" with her heel and the weight behind that motion was enough to shake it and you all could feel it. She then turned her head in your direction "Well, don't you have somewhere else to be?!"
"Y-Yes, ma'am" You nodded respectfully and started walking away, not even noticing that you had been holding Isabel by the wrist the entire time.
"By the way" Arianna spoke once more, making you freeze in place as you quickly wondered if she had just thought of something else to punish you for "Good job on helping the new student around, Blaise. I know that no one asked you this time" She said with a subtle smile.
"Thank you, I try my best" You tried to be as graceful as possible before really hotfooting it out of there to avoid risking incurring in her wrath.
Moments later...
"That was one of the most idiotic things anyone has done in this school and I'm friends with professional idiots" You sighed somewhat angrily, sitting next to her at an empty table in the cafeteria as you had gone there to take a bit of a break.
"I was handling her just fine" Isabel huffed "I've faced worse"
"I very much doubt that a noble in Europe would find anything remotely as rough as the bullies on this side of the pond" You replied with some snark.
"Eh, who knows? But I'm not scared of mere cows. Neither the one with brown fur nor the purple one" Isabel said, putting the rapier back in its holder.
"That attitude isn't gonna make you many friends" You said, feeling like you were giving Celeste advice.
"I have all the friends I need, her name is Marcia, you saw her!" Isabel said with a dismissive pout "Oh! She must be worried, I need to get going!" She then stood up and smirked at you "Don't miss me too badly, I'll see you tomorrow. Don't let the hippos bite!" She giggled but you gave her an unamused glare "Adiosito~" She blew you a kiss before presumably heading somewhere to do study hall with Marcia.
"What a goddamn day" You muttered with a heavy sigh as you stood up and headed to join your friends...
