You concluded you were about a foot tall or so, feeling like an action figure that would have to climb to get on top of some of the mountains of junk that Hotaru had in her lab, and getting your final confirmation when Hotaru got up, and up, and you had to crane your neck up a bit just to look at the top of her knee.

"I will fix this Shujin! I just need to find the shrink ray first and start figuring out a reversal process.." She looked down at you one last time with guilt written on her face still and got to work

"Hotaru" You called out to her

"But I will need to fix the shrink ray first to be able to test it, I don't know if I can just grow things that have never been shrunk before" She paced around the lab brainstorming ideas out loud, concerned but focused.

"Hotaru.." You tried again, used to this routine. It was the first time you were seeing the world from the perspective of an action figure, but not the first time you had to get Hotaru out of that funk mode where she just paced around worried instead of doing anything she actually needed to do like going to school or tie her shoes.

"And I don't know how to find chemicals that can make something grow or reverse this kind of process"

"Hotaru!" you shouted, losing patience

"Wha? kyaa!"

"Wait!" You were glad you didn't think of chasing her around because once again she tripped and at your size that would have meant she would have crushed you! But at least she finally noticed you were trying to get her attention.

"I forgot again. Hotaru, you dummy" she grumbled and finally tied her shoes 

"Are you alright?" You ran to her, your mood a bit lifted by the whole schtick, classic Hotaru

"Shujin! I wish you caught me like all those times" She looked at you with a fond expression for a moment before getting all concerned again 

"I.. don't think it would have been a good idea"

"Yeah, I'm so sorry. I just need to find the shrink ray to start"

"Hotaru, it's getting late for school" you finally told her what you originally wanted to tell her. This was supposed to be a simple exhibition before walking with her to school, but despite your predicament you knew with her record she couldn't afford missing more days. She might be a genius inventor, but you still needed a good enough attendance record to not get into trouble.

"Wha? Shujin you dummy, I can't leave you like this!" She immediately protested. Something about how worried she looked despite being so much bigger than you was getting to you, making you think about her in a different light.

"You were already warned, remember?" 

"Oh no! You're right Shujin. We need to go to school first, I'm so sorry" Hotaru just kept apologizing. On one side you didn't mind because after that explosion this was easily the biggest accident she has had with her creations involving you, on the other her lack of confidence in finding something quick was making you shiver.

"We? I can't go like this! I can stay here and wait for you" You protested back 

"B-but you're small, like a toy! You can get lost!"

"I won't, I can even find your ray thing and clean up a bit" You ignored Hotaru's insensitive comment, more worried that she would force you to go with her. How would you stop her if she could just grab you with one arm? For you it was clear that it would be a lot more dangerous to go to school than to stay, but you could see in her eyes she wasn't budging.

You thought she would keep protesting, but instead she watched her phone and her face went pale. You did the same (grateful the phone shrunk down with you along with your clothes) and understood there was no more time for talking.
