Abbie is taken for training on her new life as ...
“My name is Grace by the way,” the Asian woman said. “Here’s a robe and a pair of flip flops. Now then, follow me.” Grace spun around and walked towards the Brobdingnag preparation facility.

Abbie dropped the flip flops and slid her toes under the black thongs. She slipped on the white cotton robe which extended just past her mid-thigh. Before following Grace into the building, she looked down at the pebble on the ground which she knew was the Lilliputian Medical Facility. She couldn’t spot Dr. Phillips car anywhere as he was just far too small.

“Before we let you out in the wild, we’ll have to go through a bit of an orientation and training,” Grace directed Abbie to sit at a desk that was piled high with paperwork. “Now that you are a Brobdingnagian, there are few important rules you must learn that you probably weren’t aware of. First off, going to Gulliveria and Lilliput Island is strictly prohibited. You are not allowed to pick up a Gulliverian or a Lilliputian without expressed consent. And lastly, do not use your size to intimidate our smaller cousins.”

Grace scribbled some notes on some documents while Abbie looked around the nondescript office. It didn’t really feel like she grew at all. Everything was at her scale and seemed normal. She wondered about her parents and few friends from High School. Was she ever going to see them again?

“I need to show you this 15 minute video about Brobdingnag before we head out for training.”

Abbie sat through the cheesy fifteen minute video. It went over the geography and size scales that the Brobdingnagians are used to. Abbie didn’t learn much and was actually fighting to stay awake. At the end of the video, Grace brought in a silver tray with various objects on it.

“Okay Abbie, anytime you want to communicate with our smaller cousins, you’ll have to use a specialized headset. It turns your booming voice into something gentle that the Gulliverians and Lilliputians can understand.”

Abbie took a long breath as she saw a Gulliverian scaled house on the tray. The other half of the tray seemed empty. Grace placed the tray on the desk in front of Abbie and then took a seat. Abbie lowered her face to the tray as her eyes widened in bewilderment. She whispered wow as she looked over the small house and empty part of the tray.

“First lesson, your breath can kill.” Grace said as she pulled out a magnifying glass. “I’m afraid you just inhaled a Lilliputian neighborhood Abbie.”

“What?” Her mouth dropped open. “I—I didn’t know…I didn’t mean to.”

“Relax honey, no one was on there, but take a look for yourself.” Grace handed the magnifying glass.

Abbie looked through the expensive glass at the seemingly empty part of the tray. It was a neighborhood alright—at least what was left of it after Abbie’s breath overcame it like a hurricane. It appeared to be a suburb like where she grew up, except the rows and rows of houses were ripped up from their foundation where she took her breath. Abbie started to get goose bumps as the realization of how small she was started to creep in. Not only that, but her family and friends were still that small. She would have to take extreme care around her former kind if they were going to survive her.

The training commenced with Grace showing her how to pick up Gulliverians and Lilliputians. They practiced on robots scaled to the two races. Abbie learned how to use her fingernails to pick up Lilliputians by having it upturned and absolutely still. Abbie then received training on communication through the headset. It didn’t take much time and Abbie picked up all facets of a living like Brobdingnagian quite quickly.

“Now just because you got the training,” Grace said, “doesn’t mean you should go around picking up little people. You should always let your smaller cousins travel on their own and only pick them up in emergencies.”

Abbie had her upturned index finger held up to her eyes, trying to focus on a Lilly robot. “That makes sense. I promise not to pick them up unless I absolutely have to.” Abbie looked back down at her index finger. The Lilly robot was gone.

Grace held back a giggle, “You still need to work on your breathing around the Lilliputians; otherwise you’ll suck them all up in your nose.”

Once the training was over, Abbie was given shorts and a t-shirt to wear. She kept her flip flops on picked up a backpack loaded with bare essentials, such as hygiene products, underwear, and smartphone.

“This is where we say goodbye.” Grace gave Abbie an amorous hug. “You’ll just have to pick a place to live and a member of staff will give you a ride to your new home. Remember, if you ever need a refresher or want to learn more, you can always stop on by.”

“Thank you Grace.” Abbie gave her another hug. “Thank you for making this transition a little bit easier.”

Abbie logged onto one of the computers in the lab and looked for her new home.
