"Charlie, I saw my first shrink today..."
Looking at his wife, Charlie stayed silent as the impact of her words washed over him. He could tell by the look in Lillian's eye that she was feeling emotional at the memory of what she had seen. Stroking her reassuringly, he waited for her to tell him more.
"They brought him in sometime in the afternoon, after my shift, but since I had promised Evelyn that I would cover hers, they ended up bringing him to me," she said.
"Charlie, he was so small, he was barely the size of my fingernail," Lillian continued, her eyes focused as she recollected the sight.
"Who was he? How did he get to the hospital?" Charlie asked. He had so many questions. They had talked about this so many times before, but for it to have actually happened...he did not know where to start.
