"Charlie, are you awake?"
Lillian's soft voice whispered at Charlie's side as he turned over to look at his wife in the dim darkness of their room, her figure barely visible by the light of the moon that illuminated her eyes as she stared intently at him.
"I am hon, what's up?" came his reply, as he shifted closer to her, his hands instinctively caressing her bump while his eyes adjusted to seeing in the dim moonlight.
"Something happened today at work," Lillian said, "and it's not good but I really need to talk about it with you."
"Of course sweetheart, you know you can tell me anything," Charlie replied. While he was himself a man of logic and kept himself composed and calm for the most part, hearing the uncertainty in Lillian's voice left him feeling nervous. For better or worse though, he knew that being married to a nurse would mean difficult conversations at times and with a comforting rub, he pulled his wife in closer to his side.
