the modeling gig
It might have been the lowest paying of the three, but at least "modeling" wasn't completely implying your fate as a future fuck toy. What mattered the most right now was to get enough money to cover your rent - and if they were honest, maybe you could get a stable job.
You didn't have a great camera, but you snapped a few pictures of yourself for a little "portfolio." Still, you made sure that the first one looked at least marginally professional. A simple picture of your face in portrait would have to do. A few minutes later you had written up a sparse C.V., put everything together, and send your application. Now the only thing left was to wait, and hope that you had made the right choice...
Only half an hour later, your phone rang.
"Good afternoon," the person on the other end sounded feminine and firmly polite, "this is Jade Morgan from 'Vision Marketing®.' Am I speaking with Susanne Hill?"
"Yes..." you answer hesitantly. Her tone was professional, serious. A good sign.
"We have just received your application and we are very happy to say that we would like to welcome you on our modeling team. I hope I am not catching you at an inconvenient time?"
"No," you stammer, "no, not at all. I just didn't expect you to call me so soon. Or, at all."
"I see. Surely you know that norm business is very hard on people of your kind. Our modeling shoots are chronically understaffed because of this, despite being one of the more classy spaces shrinks can find work. We don't take on just anyone, though. Mostly, we were caught with your prior experience in exotic dancing. With that as well as your photos, we decided you to be the perfect candidate for our coming shoot."
"Alright..." Alarm bells started ringing in your head. How exactly did exotic dancing relate to modeling? But before you could voice your question, Jade continued.
"We would like to meet with you as soon as possible, to sort out a contract for you as well as getting the shoot started. Would you be free in the next few days?"
You hesitate - Jade made this sound very appealing, perhaps too much so. Your instincts told you not to agree, to take back your application or make up something why it would be impossible for you to start work. But you needed the money and it looked like this gig was the only opportunity for you.
"I'm free right now," you say, nervousness creeping into your voice, "or the next few days. Whenever it's convenient for you."
"Perfect!" Jade sounded pleased. "Then, if it's not too much trouble, we would come and pick you up right away. We are already behind schedule, so we would love to get started as soon as possible."
"Alright then. I will be waiting"
"Very well. We from 'Vision Marketing®' are looking forward to working with you, Miss Hill. We will be at your door in an hour."
You mumble a weak 'goodbye' and sit down for a minute, stunned. What exactly were you in for? This was all moving very quick - another alarm bell rang in your head. But then again, you had never been on a professional photoshoot before. Maybe this was just the norm?
All doubts aside, you had agreed on the gig. The least you could do, was get ready. You packed everything important into an old, but still nice looking purse. Neither the ad nor Jade had actually told you what you would model for. You decided do dress casually, put on your best, black jeans and a professional looking white blouse. If you needed to change, they probably would provide the clothes.
Not soon after, your doorbell rang and you hurried towards the entrance of your apartment complex. Outside, an elegant black car was parked. From your perspective, you couldn't see who was driving - what you could see was the woman looking down at you. She was dressed in a sharp, blue skirt, barely reaching her knees and a white dress shirt, that was tightly buttoned up. Her feet were clad in black stiletto shoes and small, smart-looking glasses sat on her nose. Her hair was very blond, almost white, cut short on the right side of her head and brushed over, hanging down on the left side. Her eyes maintained a cool, distanced look.
"Hello, miss Hill." You recognized the voice - apparently Jade herself had come to pick you up.
"Once again, I wish to welcome you to our team. If you would," she lowered down her hand toward you, "please come with me and we will get started on your contract."
You knew this was the point of no return. You could only hope, that she was an honest businesswoman. Despite your doubts, you climbed on top of her outstretched palm. With a nod you signaled her that you are ready to go.
"Excellent!" Jade turned and climbed into the backseat of the car. She quickly told the driver an adress and you were on your way.
The car ride was silent. Jade didn't seem to notice you quitly stewing in your own nervousness. Her lips were curled in a cool, distanced smile. You thought she looked almost haughty - though you would have never said that to her face.
You came to a stop quicker, than you had expected. Looking outside the window, you found yourself outside a big, chrome and glass tower, the logo of 'Vision Marketing®' proudly displayed above the entrance. Jade picked you up without a word, nodded to the driver, and carried you through the building. A walk past a modern-looking reception area, an elevator ride, two corridors, and one opaque glass door later, you were sat in an office. Jade placed you down on the table taking up most of the room and sat down in a chair opposite of you. The nervousness came in full force. You were barely taller than the nameplate infront of you. It said 'Director Morgan.'
"Now, first of all, we will set you up with a contract for this shoot. Bill, if you would..."
You hadn't noticed him before, but there was another shrink, sat opposite you next to the enormous Jade Morgan. He got up from his miniature desk, taking a big pile of papers, and came straight toward you. He had a cheerful smile on his face and was dressed more casually than you - just loose jeans and a band t-shirt. A small, glittering pin was pierced into his nose, a thin metal ring through his left eyebrow. His left arm displayed an intircate tatoo. Had you met him on the street, you wouldn't have guessed he was a secretary.
"It's good to see you miss Hill! I think you'll fit right in here!" His tone was polite, but not as firm and definitly more cheery than Jade's. He grabbed your hand, firmly shook it, and led you to his desk.
"We'll just need a few signatures from you, plus some additional information. Do you want to go over this contract in depth?"
You shake your head. Simply seeing another shrink in this intimidating building made you feel much more at ease. If he had such a good attitude towards his job, your's couldn't be all that bad, right? You quickly signed all necessary fields. Maybe this would go well...
"Excellent!" Jade exclaimed after you put down your final signature. "Then we can cover the details of your work. We have provided a set for you and your modeling partner, a norm woman named Cory Silver. A professional photographer, Delia Tyson, will guide you and miss Silver through the shoot. Depending on your competence, we may consider you for future shoots, or even possibly full-time employment. The shoot will begin soon. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. If not, you could stay in our lounge. We will fetch you when we are ready."
Of course, one question was most prominent in your head. Something that you had, oddly, still no idea about.
"What exactly will I model for?"
Jade looks at you for just a second, a blank look on her face. Then she lets out a slight chuckle.
"I can't believe we haven't told you. It speaks in your favour, that you would still consider this opportunity without knowing such a crucial detail. Well, this shoot will be promoting..."
