“Oh no, it was a dog,” Aaron learns. “Everyone remain alert.”
What’s wrong with a dog, you wonder. You want to ask someone, but everyone is being very quiet.
You hear some noises as the dog wakes up, slightly distraught and moves away from the box.
“With dogs often comes owners,” Aaron finally whispers to you. “Owners don’t like seeing their little tikes gassed, even though it doesn’t harm them. Sometimes they take it as an offence.”
The gravity of that comes to you. The societal norm is that sanctuaries are safe spaces for tinies to be left alone, except in the rare cases of someone attacks in the sanctuary attacks them in which case are bets are off. Hopefully, that is not the interpretation of some norm owner.
“Some tiny catchers use the dogs to sniff up our boxes,” he continues. “They have them dig it up, and use our counters as a pretext to invade. If I had known it was a dog, I would never have done this.”
