Backstory:
When Ash Ketchum first left on his pokemon adventure, Delia was loathe to see her baby boy go, but
After the newsworthy destruction of the Viridian City Pokemon Center, however, where she knew he was staying, she panicked and immediately drove from Pallet Town to pick up her son, convinced that he wasn't ready to go out into the world just yet. After a sudden reunion and many tears shed on her part an argument broke out on whether he should be allowed to continue his journey or go back home.
A concession was made that she would allow him to continue on the stipulation she accompany him every step of the way as a pokemon trainer.
Embarrassed and mortified as he was initially that his mother was going to handhold him through the whole adventure, he was secretly pleased that he got to spend more time with his mother.
All of which leads up to this very moment.
