"...Me! I'm very interested in you."
That stopped you in your tracks. You gazed down at the filly in surprise.
"You want to know about...me?" you asked uncertainly.
Diamond Tiara nodded back and cheerfully replied. "Uh-huh! I want to know all there is to know about you, what your home life was like, are you ruled by a queen, and most importantly..."
She then tilted her head to the side and gave you a queer look, ".. why do you wear those ugly robes all the time?"
This was quite a twist. You certainly hadn't expected Diamond Tiara of all ponies to be the one to approach you with questions about your culture
This could be a problem. A filly had identified you from a race of long dead human analogues and possibly mistaken you for one of their number.
All you really wished to do was quietly observe from afar and not get directly involved in pony affairs, but it seems fate had other things in store for you.
What were you supposed to say? You knew just about as much of this "Kingdom of Man" as they did, and even then your knowledge was limited to a couple sentences from a dusty old book. You didn't want to lie to the filly or make it look like you have something to hide, but you also weren't sure exactly how much you wanted to reveal about yourself.
All of the sudden, you became acutely aware of several sets of eyes watching you.
While you had been engaged in conversation with Tiara, out of the corner of your eye you spotted a small group of ponies gathering nearby, while still keeping a respectable distance away from you and Tiara. They seemed to be only only watchful and weren't agitated by your proximity to the lone filly, thank God. You didn't want the local populace thinking of you as some kind of creepy pedophile or something. Still, it would be best to be on your best behavior as to avoid an incident.
You took a deep breath and searched yourself for the best answer to give to the filly's question that won't insult her intelligence.
Diamond Tiara's wide glittering eyes gazed up at you like you were just the paragon of human knowledge and you were about to pass down some of your greatest secrets.
You gulped and made a show of tugging at the collar of your robe. "Well... you see, where I come from, we wear clothes to protect our bodies from the elements while outdoors, with the type and amount of clothing varying depending on the situation. It's considered immodest and indecent to expose yourself completely to other people in public, so humans have to wear clothes constantly. Not only that, but in most places it's also illegal to walk around in the nude and if you're caught you can get arrested and fined for indecent exposure."
Diamond Tiara narrowed her eyes, wrinkled her nose and her cute little muzzle scrunched up in confusion. "Illegal? You mean you can get thrown in jail for not wearing any clothes? That sounds like an awful place to live. I can't even imagine being forced to wear some stuffy dress every day."
You helplessly spread your hands and replied, "Trust me, it's a lot more complicated than I make it sound. There's a lot of. factors stemming from traditional and religious sources guiding our society. It's not all bad, technology has made the production of clothing pretty cheap and there's a large variety of fashions to choose from."
Tiara didn't seem too convinced by your explanation, however. In fact she seemed even more skeptical than before. Her ears drooped and her eyes were covered in a wet sheen. "Still, having to cover yourself like that is just so sad. How can anypony ever know what your special talent is if they can't see your cutie mark? It's like living in a Saddle Arabian harem..."
You were about to reply that humans didn't have any cutie marks to show when her mood suddenly brightened and she said "Oh, I'just had a great idea! Why don't you..."
