Jason!?” Madeline gave the rope an experimental tug and then waited. It was rather difficult to be patient when there was a corpse actively dissolving a few paces away in the same goop you were currently standing in, so she couldn’t accurately guess how long she remained before wrapping the rope around her hand and trying to climb back up herself.

“Come on, Jason!” she said, and Madeline locked her knees into her hips and shrank her body profile as she tried her best to make her way up the concerningly slack length of floss. “This is very cool, I am not going to lie,” she yapped. “But seeing the half-digested remains of my neighbor wasn’t on my bucket list for today…” Her breathing was getting raspy as more and more energy was expended to the Sisyphean task of ascending even a little bit up the descending rope. The floss languished atop the skim of stomach acid, and when Madeline looked back she estimated the equivalent of thirty or so feet behind was coiled on the lake surface.

When her most recent attempt at scaling the rope was for naught, she stomped her foot in a splash. “Dude, what is the deal!?” Madeline said, and she gave an almighty tug with every ounce of strength she had left. Madeline nodded with satisfaction as she looked up at the esophageal sphincter. That’ll show him.

Then, the rope ended. It fell from the sphincter and landed in the goop.

Madeline looked at the end of the rope in her hands, and then back to Franky’s half-digested corpse.

“…Oops.”
