Revolution VI - And on the Second Day... My name is Jill Tiny chapter 30 by copier · original author: dr.manhattan

It was apprehension that gripped Cindy's heart as she stepped into the classroom assigned her. The mere mention of the word espionage made her feel uneasy, corrupted almost. Still, such things come with the territory when accepting an internship at a secret underground government complex, and Cindy wasn't about to wuss out now.

Arriving eight minutes early, Cindy found the room already filled to half capacity, only a few of her fellow interns having opted to select their seats amongst the five-by-six neatly lined rows of polished grayish-blue desks so early. While the floor and ceiling maintained the dull metallic theme of the facility, three of the walls breathed a refreshingly contrary dim red. The forth partition, serving as the classroom's forefront, consisted entirely of translucent sage, a few scribblings barely visible against the gray backdrop as it bathed in florescent lighting.

Cindy scanned the room, finding a few familiar faces from the previous day, before her eyes came to rest on a particular duo crowding a desk near the back of the room. Curiously, she moved in to investigate.

"Just try it again!", Cindy could barely hear a shrill, male voice threaten as she approached, "I'll bite your knuckle off!".

"Alright, tough guy, I think I will", the arrogant tone gave trainee Robbins away.

Cindy identified the other bully as Tim "Fish" Bowden, though his gleeful deportment posed him quite differently. As for the focus of their hazing, a boy roughly the same age as Cindy, who happened to stretch to a full three inches in height, stood on the lacquered surface with the two normal sized boys on either side of him. The tiny boy held a mean look upon his face, his fists clenched in aggression. If not for his shaking denim-clad knees, Cindy would have thought him not to be scared at all.

Robbin's hand descended with prodding fingers, garnering the little victim's full attention. Fish took advantage of the opening, pushing the defenseless teen with two thick digits against the persimmon cotton fabric covering his back, subsequently knocking him flat on his face. As the boy jumped back to his feet, a coiled wrecking ball of epidermal fury pelted the shimmering ground inches from his position. A hand from the opposite side moved to attack as well, but the declination was abruptly halted by the violent grasping of a feminine appendage.

"Cut it out", Cindy's voice is stern and spiteful, "Now".

Fish's expression drooped to a more recognizable form. With a lowered head, flashing a brief, smug smile to the teeny boy, he walked to a seat at the front of the room and sat down. Cindy then looked to Robbins, who in turn was looking at his own feet.

"We didn't mean nothin' by it, Cargill", Robbins said with an awe shucks attitude. As he raised his gaze, he was met only with swirling orbs of cold, merciless jade. Shooting a menacing glare at the boy on the table, he too moved to the first row of desks.

Cindy slipped into the chair adjoining the boy's desk, her concerned countenance focused entirely on him.

"Are you okay?", Cindy asked kindly, "Those jerks didn't rough you up too much, did they?".

"Back off, ogre!", the puny teen shouted in response, "No one asked you to step in".

With a dejected moue, Cindy replied sincerely, "Sorry, I didn't mean to get in your way". She then started to rise from her seat.

"And what I meant by that was...thanks", the boy squeaked with a declined chin, rubbing the back of his neck in shame, "I'm Sylvan, by the way".

Slipping back into her chair, the natural cheeriness returned to her glowing visage as she ogled Sylvan.

"You're positive you don't want one of us to carry you, Jackie?", Chad questioned with great consideration.

Buffy followed up, "Yeah, you look pretty tired".

"Nope...just fine...thanks", Jackie answered between exasperated breaths.

Truth be told, Jackie was pretty worn out. The brisk pace of her jog had taken its toll on both her lungs and legs, but she refused to give in and ask for help. Not after the scene she made when her partners shortened their strides just for her sake.

"I still can't believe Mr. Tesla told us to shadow the lab", Buffy changed the subject, "I didn't think we were even allowed in there until the end of the term".

"Old Avocet...can't...hold back...genius", Jackie explained with a winded overconfidence.

"You know, you're pretty cocky, Jackie", Chad smiled down at the ten inch girl, "Right, but cocky".

"Oh!", Buffy exclaimed before Jackie could quip a witty retort, "I think this is it".

Jackie craned her neck upward to see for herself. The act would have been harmless enough, had she thought to stop running beforehand. Buffy, preparing to invoke the paneled slot level with her head, felt a slight tap against left her calf as Jackie crashed against its bare skin. The gigantic blond inspected the cause of the disturbance, only to find Jackie planted on her bottom with cheeks blushing in embarrassment.

"Whoops", Buffy suppressed the urge to giggle, "Are you alright?".

"...Yeah", for once Jackie doesn't have much to say.

As Jackie pulls herself off the ground, the doorway to the laboratory was already opening. She stood between her two larger friends, eyes wide as they took in the scene before them. Scientists scurried rhythmically to and from various work desks, each littered with unique tools and filings, positioned strategically throughout the huge room. Computer screens and bulky machinery occupied much of the remaining room. Such things were to be expected in a laboratory.

The astounding thing, however, was that every piece of equipment appeared to be an extension of the room itself. It wasn't just that they were made from the same material, either. They literally seemed to stretch from the floor and the walls, shaping themselves to the needs of those using them. In confirmation of this, a monitor on the far wall contorted in a fit of semi-liquid chaos, uneven waves of dead gray washing over each other without remorse. When the commotion had settled, a four level shelf hung in its place. Casually, A scientist placed a glass beaker on the lowest its lowest platform.

"Yeah", Jackie uttered, "Definitely alive".

Jezel pinched four small manila envelopes between her thumb and forefinger, lifting them from her desktop. She slowly reached down to hand them to the proportionately small girl in waiting at her feet.

"And what did you say you need this for?", Jezel quizzed suspiciously, "This is some pretty sensitive information, especially for a little girl only on her second day".

Jill tilted her head skyward, the documents hovering just out of reach. Even from her seated position, Jezel towered over the minuscule girl. A blank look was etched into Jill's face. She knew she would need a solid excuse well before asking for the materials in question, yet she still had none.

"Well...", Jill tried to stall.

"Hm, maybe I should ask Mac", Jezel suggested tauntingly, "I'm sure he would know why you would need this stuff".

Worry started to work its way through Jill's system. She might have been able to trick Jezel, had she been more careful, but Mac would surely know that Jill had no reason to request any data on the mainframe, let alone the nature of such that she had wanted.

"That the stuff for the diagnostic I asked for, girl?", a high pitched, yet rough voice interrupted from abaft.

Jill pivoted nervously, seeing a taller, but still tiny man she knew as Big Mic walking towards her.

"Er...Yeah, I thought now would be a good time", Jill stumbled.

"So this stuff is for you, runt?", there was contempt in Jezel's query.

Mic nodded eagerly and replied happily, "Yes, mistress!".

Jezel paused for a moment, then dropped the filings down to Jill, still watching Mic.

"And my office?", Jezel demanded.

"Everything is working just fine, mistress!", the voice leaving Mic's lips doesn't match his body.

"Then scoot!", Jezel ordered, then shifted her attention to Jill, "Have a nice day, Miss Keeper", there was a heavy emphasis on Jill's name.

Pressing a button on her neatly organized desk, Jezel opened a doorway for the two tinies to use. Jill and Mic exit the room. They head down the hall together, no words spoken. Finally, Jill asked what was on her mind.

"Why did you do that?", Jill interrogated innocently.

Mic stopped walking and looked to Jill. "Don't be doin' whatever you're tryin', girl", there was anger in his eyes, though his tone was plain, "Remember you're just a tiny, like the rest of us".

Jill had no response. Mic started to speak again, his movements indicating a greater passion. However, three prodigious fingers swooped from behind Jill, making contact with Mic's forehead. With a flexing motion, they pushed Mic to the ground.

"Look out, pipsqueak", Lauren addressed the diminutive older man on the ground, "I need to borrow miss high and mighty for a minute".

"Of course, mistress!", Jill felt a little sick to her stomach at Mic's words.

Lauren's lowered hand swiftly moved to pick up Jill. Her digits wrapped around Jill's midsection with an unexpected tenderness, though still holding firm. Standing upright, Lauren carried Jill upright and near her face. They set off down the hall, in the direction Jill had previously been heading.

"So, what do you need, Lauren?", Jill curiously spoke.

Lauren's fiery russet irises floated to the upper left portions of their respective misty white pools. After a minute, they centered themselves once again, the look of an unaccomplished mission about them.

"You gonna tell me what are in those folders, Jill?", Lauren snidely pumped.

"I wasn't planning on it", Jill sassed back.

Lauren rolled her eyes, "Whatever".

Glancing over her shoulder, Lauren stopped her pacing. Before returning her oculars to Jill, she lowered the girl in her hand slowly back to the floor.

"I think I'm done with you, now", Lauren rudely announced. She started to leave.

"Lauren", Jill called to the giant, who in turn looked back at her, "Thanks".

Lauren scoffed at Jill, then went on her way. Jill could only smirk as she stared down at the envelopes in her hands.
