The elevator goes down.... My name is Jill Tiny chapter 15 by copier · original author: rainman1131

"Cindy!" Jill gasped, squirming in the giant girl's fist. "Not so tight!"

"Oh!" "Cindy relaxed her grip on both girls. "Sorry, guys. I'll try to be more careful with you. It's just that this is so cool!"

Both tiny girls looked around. The elevator's walls, ceiling, and floor were made entirely of some kind of dull, non-reflective metal. There were no lights visible, just a dull glow that seemed to radiate vaguely from every surface of the elevator. There were no buttons, nor a control panel of any kind, just a tiny slot near the door, which Jill guessed might fit the ID Card Cindy now had in her pocket.

The door in front of them was seamless, with no space at the top or bottom, where the alternating bands of light and dark should show as the elevator passed each floor. The only thing to indicate that they were moving at all, was a slight downward pull in the pit their stomachs. As smooth as the ride was, Jill still got the feeling they were descending very quickly, indeed.

"Set me down a minute, Cindy." Jackie said.

Cindy set the tiny brunette down near her feet. Jackie walked up to the wall and ran her hand down the smooth surface. She whistled softly. "Feel this stuff. This is like no metal I've ever seen before. I mean, it's smooth and solid enough...but it feels..." She pinched her lips in a thin line, searching for the word she wanted. "Organic."

Cindy frowned, moving to the wall. "What do you mean? Like...alive?" Cindy reached out a hand to the slick surface, recoiling quickly in revulsion. When she saw Jill reaching out, not quite able to touch the wall, Cindy moved in closer. Jill touched the wall. Whoa, she thought, that is pretty strange!

Jackie shook her head in answer to Cindy's question. "Not exactly alive, no. Not now, anyway. More like...more like the metal wasn't made or smelted, but grown."

Cindy made a face. "That's creepy."

Jill cocked her thumb down at Jackie. "Oh, something else you should know about her, Cindy. Jackie's a science geek. For example, she could tell you, oh, I don't know, how the Enterprise goes through space so fast."

"Warp drive," said Jackie absently, still running her hands along the wall. "Warps the space in front of the ship, that is, bends space itself, thereby exponentially reducing the distance to a specific destination. The ship doesn't travel faster, it just travels smarter."

Cindy laughed. "That is so cute! A pocket-sized scientist!"

Jackie turned slowly from the wall, glaring up at the larger girl. "You're asking for a swift kick in the ankle, Kong."

"Oh, now that's a nice thing to say!" said Cindy, a half-smile on her face. "Jackie, I swear-"

"We're stopping, guys," said Jill from Cindy's hand.

Both girls felt it, too, even as Jill was speaking. That slight, pit-of-the-stomach feeling was fading, and finally stopping completely. Apparently, they were here. But where, Jill wondered, was 'here'.

The featureless door in front of the girls suddenly grew a slit up it's middle, starting at it's top and slicing quickly down to the bottom.

Cindy hurriedly set down her pack. "Quick! Get inside, guys! Before somebody sees you!" She unzipped the pack, and gently set Jill inside, nestling her into a t-shirt. Cindy then reached for Jackie.

Jackie held up her hands, warding off Cindy's much larger one. "I'll get in myself, grabby!"

Cindy gave an exasperated breath. "Okay, but hurry up!" The giant girl held open the bag widely so that Jackie could crawl in. When she had done so, settling in next to Jill on the t-shirt, Cindy quickly zipped up the pack, leaving a small opening to let in air for her tiny friends. Jill and Jackie quickly scooted over to the opening, not wanting to miss anything.

The door opened soundlessly, the two halves receding neatly into thin recesses in the walls. Cindy lifted the pack carefully, slinging the straps over one shoulder, and stepped out of the elevator.

The corridor walls, floor, and ceiling were made out of the same dull metal as the elevator. As Jill poked her head out of the pack, she saw that the corridor seemed to stretch very far into the distance in both directions; in fact, she could not see the end of it. At intervals along the smooth metal walls were spaces that Jill assumed were intersecting hallways leading to other parts of the complex.

The corridor was deserted.

"This has got TOP SECRET GOVERNMENT INSTALLATION written all over it," said Jackie from inside the pack. "I mean, we're talking some serious X-Files type shit here. Or maybe it's just the hospital, huh, Jill?"

"Oh, shut up, Jackie!" replied Jill, nudging Jackie with her elbow.

"Hey!" Cindy said in a harsh whisper. "Keep it down, you two!"

Jackie nudged Jill back, whispering now. "She's right Jill. No telling who's listening."

Jill frowned. "I told you guys this wasn't a good idea!"

"Shhhh!" hushed Cindy, holding her face closer to the pack. "Don't make me close that zipper!"

Both tiny girls were silent.

Cindy nodded, satisfied. Be good, she mouthed. Both girls nodded, a little sullenly.

Cindy walked slowly down the corridor, listening to the sound of her footsteps echoing softly off the metal walls. Jill saw from the pack that there didn't seem to be any doors in the walls. The smooth, dull metal just seemed to flow by as Cindy walked, unbroken, until they reached an intersection. Here the intersecting hallway stretched away into the distance in both directions, with no end in sight.

"Damn, " whispered Jackie. "Where's the YOU ARE HERE map?"

"Yeah. No kidding," agreed Cindy.

"Hey," said Jill suddenly. "Look at the slots, Cindy."

"What?" asked Cindy, confused.

Jill's tiny arm was sticking out of the pack, pointing at the wall in front of them. There, at about head height to Cindy, was another one of the slots like the one Jill had noticed in the elevator.

Jackie put an arm around Jill and hugged her. "Good catch, Jill! Cindy, get out your ID card!"

"What for-" Now Cindy saw the slot. "Oh...uh...okay..." She fumbled in her pockets for a minute, then found the card. "Now what? Just put it in there?"

Jackie was nodding. "Yeah. Just put it in like a hotel room key card, I think." She paused. "Hopefully there's not a retinal scan, too."

"What's that?" asked Cindy, a worried expression on her face.

Jackie shook her head. "Never mind. Just slide it in there, Cindy."

Cindy swallowed hard. Then she pushed the card into the narrow slot. Before she could pull it out,a panel over the slot lit up in neon blue letters. It read, BEHAV STD.

"What's that mean?" Jill asked.

Jackie shook her head. "I don't know. Pull the card out, Cindy."

"Here goes," Cindy said, drawing the card back out of the slot.

Then, just like the elevator, a slit materialized in the wall, then split open soundlessly.

"Wow," breathed Cindy, standing in front of the open door, where there had been no door before.

"Go in, Cindy," Jackie urged. "There may be a time limit."

Cindy hesitated only a moment, then stepped into the room.

None of the three girls spoke as they looked around the large, rectangular room. More of the same metal walls in here, Jill noticed without surprise. The room was large, maybe fifty feet wide by a hundred fifty feet long. A waist-high metal table ran the entire length of the opposite wall, and it was partitioned into ten-foot sections by tall slabs of the same dull, omnipresent metal. Two padded metal chairs rested in front of each section. Positioned up against the wall, behind each section of table, was a small Plexiglas container of some kind. Clipboards and random stacks of papers littered some of the sections of the table. Must be some kind of lab, thought Jil.

"You with Behavioral?"

Startled, Cindy spun around quickly, her pack swing wildly on her arm.

The boy who had spoken was standing in the doorway behind Cindy. He was was thin, had long, somehow girlish hair, and wore small, rimless glasses. His dark hair framed a pale, not-quite-handsome face, that maybe could have aspired to handsome if it ever saw the light of day.

"Who...who...are..." Cindy managed, eyes still wide in surprise.

The boy held out his hands, looking a little flustered. "Oh, hey. I'm sorry...uh... I didn't mean to scare you."

Cindy took a few calming breaths. After a moment, she said, "That's okay. You just startled me a bit." Cindy smiled, embarrassed. As she glanced down, her eyes widened again.

Down on her pack, Jill was hanging out of the space in the open zipper. Her hands were gripping the zipper pull, while her bare legs kicked frantically, trying to gain some kind of purchase on the pack. Cindy saw that Jackie had a hold of one of Jill's arms, and was trying to pull her back in.

Shielding her pack from the boy as best she could, Cindy reached down, and took Jill's struggling legs between her fingers. Cindy felt Jill stop struggling as she felt herself being grasped, allowing Cindy to stuff her gently back into the pack. Cindy glanced in quickly, glad to see Jackie cradling an out of breath, but unharmed Jill.

"You okay?" the boy asked Cindy, looking at her curiously.

Cindy straightened up, securing her pack back on her shoulder. She smiled at the concern on the boy's face. "I'm fine, thanks. I'm Cindy, by the way."

The boy smiled, adjusting his glassed on his nose. "I'm Tim. Nice to meet you."

"You, too."

Tim gestured to the room. "You're assigned to Behavioral, then?"

"Uh...I..." Cindy happened to glance down at her pack, seeing Jackie. The tiny brunette was nodding up at her frantically. Cindy stared blankly for a second, then appeared to get the message.

"Oh! Yeah, I am. Behavioral. That's me!" She looked down at Jackie who nodded, giving a tiny thumbs up. Then, as Cindy turned away, Jackie rolled her eyes at Jill, who smiled.

"Good!" said Tim cheerfully. "I'm in Genetics, just down the hall, and I really don't know much about what goes on in here. Maybe you could show me around?"

"Uh...well...I, uh..." Cindy stammered. Oh no, thought Jill. She can't handle this! But then Cindy said, "Oh, I'm new here, Tim. This is my very first day. I'm sure you know way more about this place than I do."

Tim nodded. "Oh, I see. Well, I'm sure your supervisor will be along soon to get you up to speed. I have been in here before, though. I can show you what little I know."

Cindy beamed. "Great! Thanks a lot, Tim!"

That's it, Cindy, Jill thought, giggling softly, pour on the charm.

"Sure," Tim led Cindy over to one of the sections of table on the far side of the room. The door, Jill noticed, closed only now, as the two teens moved away from it. She wondered if the weight of a tiny person would hold the door open. Somehow, she doubted it.

When they had reached the far corner of the room, Tim gestured for Cindy to take a seat in front of one of the Plexiglas containers. Tim seated himself next to Cindy. Now Cindy set her pack gently against the partition on her side, the farthest point on the table from Tim.

Tim pointed at the clear container. "We'll, there they are. Your test subjects."

Cindy looked at the container. Her jaw dropped.

Inside the three foot by three foot Plexiglas cage, were two tiny people, a boy and a girl. They were about five inches tall, about half the size of Jill and Jackie. They each wore loose-fitting toga-like garments. The only furniture in the room were two small beds, and a closet-like structure that might have been a bathroom. At the front of the container were two clear plastic, glove-like structures that extended into the cage.

Glancing to the side, Cindy saw the tiny heads of Jill and Jackie poking out of the pack. They had also been staring out at the two little people in the cage. Now they both turned to look up at Cindy, shocked dismay in their eyes.

Cindy, turning so Tim wouldn't see, mouthed down at the girls, What the Hell?

The tiny girls shook their heads.

"Here," said Tim, reaching his hand into one of the glove inserts. "Let's get a closer look at them."

Cindy then...
