Cindy's eyes wandered up from Jill and Jackie, and she gazed through the school's metal fence. "It's so weird..." she started, wondering. Her glance went back down to Jill and Jackie. "A week ago I didn't know people like you even existed."
Jackie wetted her lips and raised her finger, about to make a sarcastic remark - but Cindy was quicker. "Maybe that came out wrong, but you know what I mean. ...And now I find that there's an entire school for, uh..."
"That's alright, you can say tinies." Jill laughed.
Cindy looked to Jackie for confirmation, which made her chuckle a little and nod approvingly. She continued, "So this school for tinies, Tinytown...?" Jill and Jackie burst in laugher.
"What... what did I say?" Cindy looked at Jill, confused. "You still don't know Jackie's sense of humor." Jill sighed with a smile. "The school building you see over there is part of a larger complex, most of it is located below the surface. There's a pharmacy and a hospital down there, and some other basic stuff that we smaller folks can't get anywhere else."
Jackie went forward, and walked over next to where Jill was sitting. This subject seemed to spark her enthusiasm. "We don't know that, Jill." She rested her hand on the tree Jill was sitting against and looked up at Cindy. "We're not allowed to go down there. They tell us there's a hospital in there... so how come whenever someone gets sick they just treat them in the nurse's office?"
Jill sighed and rolled her eyes. "Here she goes again..."
"I tell you," Jackie's face looked genuinely serious now, "There's something fishy going on down there. Biggies go in and out all the time... And when I ask them what they were doing down there or who are they, they never give a straight answer."
"Oh, cut it out, Jackie. Nothing 'fishy' is going on there." Jill again rolled her eyes and looked up at Cindy. "I'm sorry about her... But that's Jackie for you."
Cindy stared down at the two girls for a moment. "Actually, to me it sounds like Jackie makes a good point. I mean, don't you find it at all suspicious that they won't let you go down there?"
Jackie smiled wide and nodded in approval, then looked at Jill. "Well. Maybe I can get used to her after all!"
Jill sighed and tried to change the subject. "So Cindy, what do you do for fun?"
Cindy just ignored her. "So what happens when you try to go down to that underground complex thing?"
Jill clucked her tongue, looking annoyed. Jackie ignored Jill as well, "They just won't let us in. There's two guards there in the entrance to the big elevator, and I only rarely see them letting small people in. When a big person comes, they just check for an ID and let them go through."
"That's all really interesting," Jill tried again to change the subject, "But I think there are other..."
"An ID like that one over there?" Cindy pointed at a spot in the sidewalk near the grass there were on.
"Yes! Someone must have dropped it!" Jackie called in excitement.
"Stay here, I'll be right back." Cindy called with a smile, and rushed to pick up the dropped ID card. Quickly she ran back to Jackie and Jill.
"Whatever you're thinking of doing, I..." Jill started when Jackie stood up and grabbed Jill up too by her elbow. "Stop being such a goody goody, Jill! ...well? So what does it say, big girl?"
Cindy looked at the card she held. "That's weird... it doesn't say anything. It's just a blank card with a bar code on it." She showed the card to Jill and Jackie. She was right: it was a blank black card with a long yellow bar code going across its center.
Jackie's enthusiasm seemed to double itself by now. "That's our chance to see what's really going on down there! Cindy, will you hide me and Jill and get us down there?"
Jill protested. "Hey, I didn't sign up for this! Cindy, you're with me, right??" Jill's worried face looked up at Cindy.
Cindy's excitement grew larger and she was already driven by her adrenalin. "Well, you don't have to come. I'll just go with Jackie."
"Awesome!" Jackie jumped in her place and clapped her hands. "Just let me in your backpack. The guard will let you through the big gate to the school's grounds if you show him that ID. The big elevator is right in the end of the school building, near the small gym. You won't be able to miss it."
"Wait!" Jill cried. "If you're going, I'll come with you. But I don't like it..."
Jackie and Cindy smiled at each other. Cindy lowered her palm near to Jackie: "Low five!" and Jackie slapped her tiny hand against Cindy's huge palm.
Jill felt she was the only one who's still got some sense left in her, and she felt she had to go with Jackie and Cindy to protect them from doing something dangerous. "And what about Mr. Jackson? He's still watching, he's gonna notice it if we just hop into your bag", Jill reminded them.
"We're going to have to be real fast then." Cindy said simply.
Cindy put down her backpack, and made way for Jill and Jackie to come in - and they did.
Jill sat in the bag with Jackie, hoping she's doing the right thing. She felt bumping as Cindy ran her way to the school's gate. "Go on", Jill heard the guard saying before the bumping continued. For half a minute her and Jackie held onto each other as Cindy ran to the big underground elevator. Jill heard the guards approving the ID, and a few seconds later Cindy's hands grabbed both Jill and Jackie from her bag (squeezing them a bit too tight) and raised them to her face:
"We're inside!!"
Jackie wetted her lips and raised her finger, about to make a sarcastic remark - but Cindy was quicker. "Maybe that came out wrong, but you know what I mean. ...And now I find that there's an entire school for, uh..."
