What Are We? Revenge of the Geek Gal chapter 17 by copier · original author: penslayer5

"Damn it!" Try as she might she just couldn't leave Heather in the state she was in.

Edna quickly walked over to the panicked girl and dragged her to the bathroom and turned on the sink. The blonde was hunched over the faucet breathing heavily as the sound of running water slowly calmed her down. By the time she finally got her breathing under control, all she could do was stare at her reflection in the mirror.

"You good?" Edna asked from her seat on the toilet.

She honestly didn't know how to feel anymore. Her arch enemy just had a panic attack and instead of just walking away she helped her. A few hours ago, she wouldn't have lifted a finger to help Heather if she were in trouble and yet she had. She helped someone who made it one of her missions in lift to make hers a living hell. What was wrong with her.

"I think I can manage now." Heather replied although her voice was small.

She just continued to look herself over in the mirror. She was a mess. A paranoid mess of trauma and insecurity. Whatever happened to the confident bitch who would run through anyone and everyone who stood in her way? The girl who rarely ever let anything get to her and gave just as good as she got? Where had that Heather gone?

The answer was surprisingly simple; she finally got knocked off her pedestal by the very same people who put her on one. Her support system jumped ship at the first opportunity and left her alone to fend for herself. The teachers turned a blind eye, and she was forcibly humbled by those who were chomping at the bit to get some revenge.

"I'm a mess." She admitted aloud.

"I can see that." Edna agreed.

The geek girl could see that as plain as day. The mouse was a far cry from the idol. The idol would never be in position to have a panic attack. She knew Heather's treatment after the accident was bad but this whole experience had been quite eye opening. How bad must it have been for her to have such a negative reaction.

"Hey..." The Enda stood up, Heather flinched slightly. "I'm not going to hurt you."

"Why not?" Heather nearly whispered. "Don't you want revenge more than anyone else?"

The question actually gave Enda pause. Did she want revenge? Of course she did. That's why she invented the shrink ray in the first place. But she wanted to get even with Heather "Freaking" Miles, not the mouse. The mouse hadn't done anything to her other than cower away. The school idol she knew would never do that.

"I thought I did." The geek answered truthfully. "But now... I'm not so sure anymore."

The pair eventually walked back to Heather's room. The blonde took a seat on her bed while Edna took a seat at the computer table.

"I'm sorry." The former school idol spoke. This seemed to catch Edna off guard. "I-I know it doesn't mean much or erase all the years but... I'm sorry I hurt you."

Edna's eyes went wide. Never in a million years did she think she'd ever receive an apology from Heather. This was... huh? Why was her vision suddenly getting misty? Was she about to cry? The nerd girl quickly tried to wipe her eyes, but it wasn't working. She was crying and she couldn't stop it.

She was about to run to the bathroom before something appeared in her watery vision. Heather, holding out a box of tissues. What was happening? Why was she looking at her like that? Still, the ginger took the tissues and muttered a small thanks.

"I... I don't know if I can forgive you." Enda confessed. "But I guess I can try to not hate you."

Heather nodded.

"I just have to ask you something though and I need you to be honest with me." She continued. "Is the old you gone for good or is she still in there somewhere?"

The blonde thought about this as she grabbed the photo off her bed. She stared at it, the image of the old mean girl she used to be. Was that girl gone for good or just lying dormant, waiting for the day she could make her surprise comeback.

"I don't know." Heather responded. "I think that she'll always be a part of me."

Enda nodded. "Thank you for being honest. So, what happens now? Where do we go from here?"

The mouse frowned. "I don't know. We're not exactly friends and we're not exactly enemies anymore, are we."

"So, then what are we?" Enda pushed.

Heather held the photo close to her chest. "I don't know."
