Edna's curiosity eventually got the better of her and the size altering geek girl decided to take a peek at the picture her old bully left behind. She grew back to her originally height and walked over to the bed. On it was a single framed picture that she held up for a closer look.
In the picture was the old Heather she remembered stood next to the old right-hand woman the goth girl used to be. The pair looked to be genuinely happy in a way the redhead wasn't used to seeing. She was used to smirks and mischievous glints, not surprising contentment.
That's when Ruthie's words from earlier came to mind. "I guess we don't really see who they really are outside of school."
She wouldn't deny that the towering blonde had been a thorn in her side for the longest time and pure evil to everyone she deemed uncool, but it was starting to look like that wasn't all she was. The photo album revealed as much and so did this single photograph in her hands.
Heather Miles wasn't absolved of her sins, but she paid the price for her actions while she was in a coma. The only problem was that she hadn't punished her personally and now the school idol was gone and replaced by someone who didn't appear to be even the least bit the monster her former self was.
"What do I do now?" Edna asked herself.
She felt robbed. Her enemy was gone, existing in name only. The mouse wasn't a threat to her and was very much terrified of everyone else. Chances are she was a dead woman when she inevitably returned to school and no one aside from Patsy would help her. That'd be social suicide.
The ginger nerd was about to make her escape when she heard a sudden gasp from behind. She quickly snapped her neck around to find the startled face of the mouse looking back at her. She'd been caught and was now trapped in the lion's den.
"W-What are you doing in my house?!" Heather asked panicked. "How did you even get in here?!"
The blonde looked absolutely terrified as Edna tried her best to come up with an explanation. "Your front door was open."
"I did?" She whimpered.
Heather's eyes were scanning the room with the kind of paranoia that actually left Edna feeling genuinely concerned. Did she think her other schoolmates were here too and going to jump out at her? Was she really that scared?
"I-I... I didn't mean to hurt Charles, I swear!" The blonde panicked. She was starting to breath heavy and backed into the hallway wall.
Edna was shocked. The way Heather was clutching her chest, the way her breathing became erratic. She knew exactly what this was as she'd experienced it herself. The mouse was having a full-on panic attack!
"H-Hey! Heather!" She called out.
The tall girl slid to her knees. She wasn't hearing, wasn't see, just reacting in a very negative manner. Edna felt torn. This was Heather "Freaking" Miles, the girl who tormented her for years. She deserved to suffer, didn't she? To experience all the pain and she brought to everyone else around her.
But at the same time this was also the mouse girl that tried to make herself look small and shied away from human interaction. The same girl who was terrified to talk to her again, the same girl everyone either ignored or treated like crap, the same girl who everyone treated... like herself.
This was all too much for Enda to take. She could walk away now and just be done with this or she could... help someone who'd become similar to herself.
