Alex’s hands and arms burned with fatigue as she gripped into the lint for dear life.Ian’s socked toes loomed over her in the poorly lit shoe,showing her various pieces of crushed dirt and lint bigger than her gained from months of soccer practice.If she gave up now,she’d probably be too small to stain the old sock.
Baking in the intense heat of the occupied shoe,Alex felt herself nearing her limit as Ian continued to walk.Her hold on the lint gradually loosened with each stomp,and soon one of her hands let go and dangled at her side like a piece of lead.Just as she was about to let go and fly off towards her crush’s foot,he stopped walking.There was a lot of commotion going on outside that she couldn’t see,and a moment later,the foot suddenly slid out of the shoe.Before she could celebrate,the shoe was carelessly dropped into the floor,knocking her loose as it fell on its side.
Alex landed at the mouth of the smelly shoe,and she could see why Ian took them off.She was in a room decorated with soccer memorabilia,video game consoles,and some dirty laundry and food wrappers.She was in Ian’s bedroom.
Ian barely knew she existed even in school,there’s no way he’d glance down and spot her near microscopic self down on the floor! To make matters worse,it was Friday,so he wouldn’t go back to school until after the weekend! She had to think of something,but what?
