Lonely Planet Your Life......Smaller chapter 20 by copier · original author: fearboy

Then your mother put her shoes back on. The light was cut off and you were left standing on your mother’s foot scared and confused. What was your mother doing now? Was she just going to leave you on her foot until she got home and let you think about your microscopic-microscopic new life? You no longer knew what your new size was now. You had started off at 1/100th of an inch, and then shrunk down so far it took two magnifying glasses to see you and now that insignificant size would be considered giant. You were so small; a million of you couldn’t fill up a wrinkle on your mothers big toe.

Just lost in thought about how small you had become, time sped by in the dark confines of your mother’s shoe. The thick smell of feet and sweat became a second thought as you wondered what you were going to do. You had always wondered how people had come to see and hear you when you were so small. You had assumed the people around you became used to your size and adapted, but at this size, you weren’t sure anyone could see you if you were standing on their eye or hear you if you were inside there ear. By all accounts, you were invisible.

Eventually, the sun returns when your mother gets home and took her shoes off. Surprisingly, you weren’t shuffled around as much as you should have when your mother walked. It was interesting. You wave up to your mom, hoping to get her to talk to you or at least acknowledge you.

“MOM! COME ON, LETS TALK! I’M SORRY!”

Your screaming at the top of your lungs, but your mother doesn’t respond. You can’t even see if she’s registering your response because her face is so far away. When you squint your eyes and look up as far as you can, you can just see beyond your mom’s ankle. A foot to you is nearly a thousand miles away, making it impossible to see not much else, but miles and miles of your mom’s foot. You can’t see anything away her foot because it’s too far away as well. You wait and listen for your mother’s voice, but after an hour of listening, you hear nothing. With horror, you realize that unless her mouth is hovering over you, the sound won’t reach you’re puny ears. Her voice might sound like the booming roar of a million thunderstorms, but it was still thousands of miles away. Your were blind and deaf on your mom’s foot until she brought her country sized face down to address you.

An hour passes and then another and another. You don’t know if your sisters have mentioned your disappearance, you’re not sure of anything. You wait and wait, until it sinks in, your mother is pretending you aren’t there, like you never existed.

Things only get worse for your state of mind when your mother gets ready for bed. The lights disappear and you can feel everything shake as your mother lies down. Grabbing onto a flack of skin as big as your whole body, you hold on for dear life. But you don’t slid down, you don’t fall off, your whole world has turned horizontal, but you’re able to stand up strait. Then you start laughing, realizing what was happening. It was gravity; you were in your mother’s gravitational pull. You didn’t fall of the earth when you got to the South Pole, gravity kept you from falling off. The same gravity keeping you from falling of your mother’s foot. You’re mother had literally become your world.

“Please look for me. Please see me. Please don’t leave me on here to…to…to….” You plead in a whisper, knowing the volume of your voice made little difference. Spending your entire life invisible on your mother’s foot with no way to escape. If that wasn’t hell, you didn’t know what was.
