Before they separated to go looking for this mysterious magical item, Merill said one last thing to the departing Louie. The gild hungry woman stomped over to the whining sorcerer and looked him strait in the eyes. Louie gulped as the stronger female was scrutinizing him.
“You better be careful wimp, I’d hate for something to happen to you.” She poked him in the chest to illustrate her point.
“You care about what happens to me?” He said with tears brimming in his eyes. He knew that he was constantly being belittled and humiliated by the three girls, but hearing one of them concerned with his safety was touching. It just goes to show that with a little hard work and a lot of groveling, you can win over anyone.
“As if,” Merill grunted. “You still owe me for that gold you borrowed to go drinking yesterday. I don’t care if you live or die, I just want my money.” She then pushed him towards Melissa and went stomping off in the opposite direction. Genie shrugged her shoulders and followed the stewing companion, not given another look at Louie.
“Well that was kinda rude of her,” Louie said while dusting himself off.
“I only borrowed a few dozen gold coins.” Melissa slapped her forehead; a few dozen gold coins could pay for three cows. Louie had pretty much bankrupt Merill with his excessive borrowing.
“Let’s go before she comes back and kick you in the face.” Melissa paused then and considered actually staying just incase Merill did come back to give a Louie punch. Then she reconsidered it, dragging Louie around this villa would be too much of a hassle. They walked in silence for a few minutes without saying anything between them, which was just fine for Melissa. Louie had his god moments when he was brave and smart, and even on a few occasions he saved her and the other girls lives. Of coarse a few good deeds didn’t make up for the numerous times he screwed up and got them into trouble. Why such a fool had been chosen to be her champion was beyond her. He was obnoxious and foolish and had to be the laziest man she knew, no good quantities could possibly be found in such a stupid, irresponsible and totally uncool…
“Look out!” Louie screamed as he ran at Melissa just as the floor that she was about to steep on collapsed. Melissa might have been pushed out of the way, but Louie was not so lucky. He went tumbling down beneath the floor and came to a hard crash on the floor beneath them.
“Louie, are you alright?” Melissa screamed upon seeing her champion take the plunge down.
“I’m okay I landed on my head.” Melissa sighed in relief at hearing he was unharmed. He was just lucky to land on his head, it was the hardest part of his body.
“I’m coming down Louie!” She called out as she jumped into the hole. Louie made a loud squeaking sound as her landing on his back broke Melissa’s fall. Melissa stepped off and Louie crawled away with big boot prints on his back from her landing.
“Look Louie,” Melissa cried when she saw something silver glowing in the middle of the floor. On a raised platform rested a golden statue, implanted with silver and jewels. Louie saw this and smiled, the statue could easily pay off his debt to Merill and leave plenty left off for a night on the own. He went to reach for it, but at the same time, Melissa was reaching for it as well. She was not thinking about how wealthy she would be if she sold the statue; her mind was more focused on the soft singing that the statue was making. Only she could hear the sound and it hypnotized her mind to only one thought, ‘touch the statue and experience true fulfillment.’
