The black cat sits on the bed; its tail flicking from side to side as it stares at you. “Nice kitty”, you say while trying not to make too much movement. A minute passes in your standstill. The cat sits there watching you with interest, but doesn’t make any attempt to come after you.
Relieved, you start to row through the water with your hands. The boat itself is, even for you, a few sizes too small. It rocks heavily with each paddle until one time you paddle too hard and capsize the boat, flinging you into the freezing water. You gasp as you surface, and see that the cat is now sitting just overhead.
It stares down at you through the mesh. Its tail, flicking back and forth, knocks against the textbooks. Each flick pushes the stack little bit closer to the edge. Flick. Flick. Flick. ‘Shit’, you think as you watch it all happen. Flick. Flick. Lowers its head close to the mesh. Flick. Flick. The cat stretches its claws out and digs them into the wire mesh, kneading it with its paws.
WHAM!
The textbooks flip off the edge and slam down onto the table below. The sound freaks out the cat, and it leaps off the aquarium... except it’s not as much a leap as it is a tumble. Its claws must have been stuck in the mesh of the aquarium cover because as it leapt, it took the whole aquarium with it.
“Woah woahWOAHWOAH!” You scream as the aquarium falls off its stand. It only takes a moment to crash down onto the table, landing on its side, and smashing nearly all the glass on impact. Water spills across the tabletop, you ride the wave all the way off the table. You land on the carpet with a splat and lay there until the waterfall stops crashing down on you.
What a mess. The entire carpet is drenched, and there are pieces of the aquarium all over the room. You see the little boat off to your right and look up the side of the bed to see that damn cat on top staring down at you. It licks its lips.
“Good kitty” you say as you back away towards the door. “Nice kitty...” You pass through the doorway into the hallway. You can do this. You can make it!
The cat hops off the bed onto the carpet. It must not have expected the carpet to be wait because it leaps back up onto the bed and starts licking its paws and fur.
This is the ticket you needed. You dash with full intensity out into the living room. Looking around, you see that the window is open. Just then, you hear a noise coming from Christina’s room. The cat might be on its way.
What do you do?
