Waking into the room, Ryoko couldn’t see anything. Whoever had been in here had shut the lights off before leaving. Bringing back her energy sword, Ryoko used the light from the weapon to see around the darkened room.
“Whoa, this place would make doctor Frankenstein jealous,” Ryoko mumbled as she looked at the strange equipment all around her. Ryo-ohki meowed in agreement and scampered off to look around. There was no question that this was a lab, although it had nothing in common with Washu’s own lab. The room was filled with bookcase after bookcase with notebooks and jars. Ryoko looked closer at one of the jars and saw something twitch inside. Ryoko winced and stepped back, whatever was inside their had its heart outside its chest and looked not too happy. Some really messed up things had gone on in here. Further inside, Ryoko saw some modernized equipment among the dusty old fixtures. Computers and machinery gleamed in the darkness as Ryoko walked deeper into the laboratory searching for clues. Near the end of the lab sat a large computer, still on. Ryoko scanned the screen, picking up one word mentioned more then once.
“Torn?”
The name meant nothing to Ryoko, but it might mean something to Washu. Ryoko looked over the files, memorizing names and dates. None of it made sense, except for a few mentions of ‘revenge’ and ‘Juria’. Whoever was working in this lab had a major hate-on for the most powerful race in the universe. Ryoko was so engrossed in reading a very vivid description of what the owner of this computer would do to destroy the universe that she almost missed someone sneaking up on her with an axe. Almost being the most import word.
The attacker brought the axe down and Ryoko sidestepped it easily. The axe sailed past Ryoko and hit the computer, shutting the machine down for good. Not willing to let her attacker take another shot at killing her, Ryoko lifted her hand up, palm open. A single ball of yellow energy shot out of her palm and collided with the attackers chest. He went flying back and hit one of the bookcases, bringing the whole thing down on him. Ryoko surveyed her kill; the hole in his chest made his death a certainty.
“That was for Nagi, I guess. I may of hated her, but no one was allowed to kill her but me,” Ryoko hissed at the corpse.
“Miss!”
Turning lazily towards the open door to the lab, the old man was standing there gasping for breath. He looked positively worn out and terrified. Ryoko decided to see what had him so riled.
“What’s up old dude? I’m surprised you haven’t gotten off this rock yet. You sticking around so you could see my pretty…”
“THEY’RE GOING TO BLOW UP THE WHOLE PLANET!”
“Oh Boy,” Ryoko groaned. This wasn’t the first time this has happened. Some universal bad guy builds a secret lab on a planet, the good guys come in and before you know it, they’re hitting the big red button to blow the planet to pieces. Bad guys were so predictable. Now Ryoko felt bad about killing the evil scientist, maybe he could have stopped the planet from blowing up. Oh well, can’t cry over spilt milk.
Ryoko looked at the old guy with growing annoyance. He would stop blubbering about how just when he thought he was safe, he’s going to be blown apart. Ryoko rolled her eyes, did he have to whine so much.
“Get a hold of yourself. We’ll be safe. God, you act like this is the first planet you’ve been on that’s been about to explode.”
“But how? All the space ships are gone and this planet is set to explode any minute now. We’re dooooomed!” His wail filled the empty lab and broke the last of Ryoko’s patience, with a light slap; Ryoko knocked the man out and slung him over her shoulder. He was lucky she was such a nice person or she would of left him here. Whistling to her partner and method of transportation, Ryo-ohki came scampering to her side with a carrot in her mouth. Ryoko had no idea where she’d gotten the carrot, hopefully not from one of those disgusting jars.
Calmly she told the cabbit the rundown. “Listen, plants going to blow and we need to get off. Ready to get off this dump?”
A happy meow was all the response Ryoko needed. Grabbing Ryo-ohki by the scruff of her neck, Ryoko tossed her into the air, where she transformed into an intergalactic spaceship. Her colossal form broke through the walls of the prison, sending debris falling. Ryoko quickly teleported on board with the old man, ordered Ryo-ohki to head into outer space the moment she was on board. They left the planets orbit just in time to watch the planet start to implode on herself. Ryoko took a seat to watch the planet go, wishing she had some popcorn as the planet caved in on itself. Whoever had rigged this planet to blow had known his stuff. All evidence of this planets existence would be wiped out soon, leaving no trace of their presence. Everything they had worked on was gone and Ryoko was never going to even know their name now that they were dead.
