Mihoshi took a deep breath. She was on her own out here with no one to help her or give her advice. Grudgingly, she had always wanted this, an opportunity to show she could be responsible and didn’t need Kiyone breathing down her neck. No one thought she had what it takes to be independent. Sure, she’s clumsy and a little naïve, but with her can-do attitude, she believed she could do anything.
Putting her mind to the task, Mihoshi realized that it would be better to land at Tenchi’s then risk landing in the city to reach her apartment. The ship had cloaking devices that would make it invisible and there was an empty lot outside her apartment where the ship was usually parked. However, if she lost control of her ship, no one was going to miss the invisible space ship crashing into office buildings. She just wasn’t didn’t have enough faith in her own abilities to land the ship, which the silent guest in her brain noted for further investigation.
Leaning back into the control chair in cramped cockpit, Mihoshi grabbed the controls and started to take the ship towards the mountains just outside of Tokyo. She scanned the ground, until finding a lake with a large house beside it. This was Tenchi’s home, a reclusive little area with practically no one around to witness the strange assortment of houseguests staying there. Mihoshi had once been one of these houseguests, until she moved out to find her own place with Kiyone. It had been her idea to move out, not liking how she had Kiyone were freeloading off of Tenchi’s family. When they had left, Kiyone told everyone that it was her idea to leave because she knew dealing with her was too much of a hassle. It had bothered Mihoshi that Kiyone had said that, but right now, with her partner dead, she no longer held a grudge.
It hit her then, her partner was dead. Sure, they fought, well, technically Kiyone fought and she took it, but she still liked the dark green haired woman. Tears welled up in the corner of Mihoshi’s eyes. “Oh Kiyone, I’ll miss you.”
If the torn had a mouth or vocal cords, it would of groan at it’s hosts over emotional response to her partners death. It had only known the woman for a few moments before disposing of her, but in that little time, the bitch had really got under its skin. The Torn had access to all of Mihoshi’s memories and know all too well about Kiyone’s tough love approach. The woman was a whiny child, needing to be seen as the poor partner to the universes dumbest detective. She treated its host like scum when she failed and ignored her when she did anything right. Such behavior only served to make the host more timid and bungling. The host, Mihoshi, should be glad Kiyone was gone. It felt so strongly about this that it help Mihoshi see the light about her partner.
“What am I crying for?” Mihoshi abruptly asked, wiping the tears angrily from her eyes. She was crying over Kiyone, mean, cruel, never helpful Kiyone. All the times Kiyone had put her down raced through Mihoshi’s mind, every insult and every blow the woman had given her. She no longer felt sad that Kiyone was gone, in fact, she felt a little happy that she no longer had to deal with angry, old Kiyone. “Good riddance.”
SHIP SUCCESSFULLY LANDED
Hearing the announcement from the computer, Mihoshi looked at the screen scarcely believing what she saw. While distracted, she’d landed the ship perfectly. It was parked a few hundred yards from Tenchi’s house, not in a tree or in the lake. A big grin blossomed on Mihoshi’s face, this was her first successful landing and she’d done it without breaking a sweat. Confidence swelled up inside her. Who needed bitchy Kiyone anyway? She was going to be all right all on her own. Adjusting the tattered remains of her uniform, so it covered at least some of her scantily clad body, Mihoshi strutted out of her ship. A new confidence filled her that made her really believe for the first time in her life that she could do anything.
