Flying away from the village should have made Naruto be at ease, but he couldn't help but feel a tinge of regret for leaving Keiji to be ripped to utter shreds by the Kazekage. However, Kakashi was quick to address these concerns before Naruto could even open his mouth.
"We needed a distraction to escape the village," he began even as the clouds flew past their makeshift aircraft. "We couldn't leave you obviously, and Kameko was our method of escape. Keiji, if you remember, had already tried to throw you to your adoring fans in order to save his own skin, and there was no guarantee he wouldn't do it again."
"Alright," Naruto nodded, understanding Kakashi's logic, but one thing still bothered him. "Now what?"
"Set down here," he told Kameko. Nodding, the giant blonde lowered the fan and the pair of ninjas until they set down in an open field by a forest.
"We're in the middle of nowhere!" Naruto yelled, quickly taking notice of the empty surroundings.
"Exactly," Kakashi replied. "We've done enough damage as it is, and having a 100 foot tall goddess fighting the political leader of another village next to the center of government would be a recipie for utter disaster. As it stands, you're in enough trouble for killing Anko and trying to blow up the Hokage."
"It was self-defense!" the teen shouted in annoyance.
"Yes, and when everyone is finally returned to normal you'll more than likely be vindicated. But if you go around and destroy half the city in an effort to avoid being eaten, the village would more than likely lock you up and throw away the key."
The teen shinobi nodded, since he could definitely see the village doing that to him. He was already considered evil incarnate by some, a menace by others, and destroying half of Kohoana wouldn't exactly improve his status among the average citizen. Still, one thing bothered him.
"So we're out of the village, right? Um...now what?"
Looking towards the forest in the direction that they had just left, Kakashi merely answered "We wait."
"WAIT?!" Naruto yelled.
"Gaara is going to come after us, and here, with no one in the way, we can make an effective stand. More importantly, we can try and ensure he doesn't come after us."
"How are we gonna do that?" Naruto asked. "The fox...it told me that it infected Gaara somehow."
"Well in that case, we'll need to remove whatever jutsu or poison or whatever is making him cannibalistic. I'm pretty sure between the three of us, we can do that."
Looking over at his confident sensei, then at the smiling face of the gigantic blonde above him as they both waited for Gaara to come, Nartuo began to slump towards the floor. It wasn't them those stalkers were coming after, so of course THEY would still be smiling. If Kakashi had come as close to death as many times as Naruto had so far, he would have been pretty pessimistic about his chances as well.
"I think I see something" Kameko interrupted, pointing out into the distance. "It's one of those guys."
"How many?" Naruto asked.
