‘“Time to wake up, sweet cheeks”
A voice from the darkness. That was the only thing Gwenpool could tell. The words the voice said made no sense to her whatsoever. She didn’t even recognize the voice; it didn’t belong to Ironjaw or that other kid whose name that Gwenpool couldn’t recall at the moment.
“Give her another dose” said another voice.
Gwenpool couldn’t understand the second voice either although it did sound vaguely familiar to her. It seemed that this voice was much easier for her to understand. Did that mean she was getting better?
The next thing that Gwenpool felt was a sharp stabbing pain in her arm. The pain was subtle at first but it grew more and more intense until she awoke from the pain. Gwenpool snapped open her eyes to see that she was in a room. She looked around the room. She found herself on a cot that had cheap linens on it.
The room was definitely an office of some sort as evidenced by the large desk on one side of the room. Behind the desk sat what looked like an ordinary duck but something was off; the duck was smoking a cigar and was clearly wearing a suit that looked it was especially made for him to wear. As Gwenpool wordlessly stared at the duck, the duck shot her a grin and waved a hand –wing?—in greeting. Gwenpool waved back.
“Oh good, you’re awake” said the second voice.
Gwenpool looked around to see Ratatoskr standing beside some kind of robot that looked almost exactly like that droid that poked Princess Leia in Star Wars in her prison cell.
“Where am I?” asked Gwenpool sitting upright on the cot. “and, more importantly, how did I get here?”
“We were kinda hoping you would know that, doll” said the duck. “you just dropped from the ceiling about ten minutes ago”
Gwenpool glanced up to see a lazy fan spinning before turning her attention back to the duck and Ratatoskr. “Last thing I remember was being in a fight in Ironjaw’s lair—”
Ratatoskr looked sharply at Gwenpool. “How did you find Ironjaw’s lair?! No, scratch that, how do you even know about her?”
“Uh, you told me about her?” said Gwenpool.
“I don’t even know who you are little missy” said Ratatoskr.
Gwenpool just stared at Ratatoskr for a long moment. Was Ratatoskr pulling an ill-timed joke on her for some reason? Wait. Was this even the same Ratatoskr that she had met a couple of chapters ago?
“Don’t tell me you just dumped me in an alternate timeline, Drez!” yelled Gwenpool in total despair.
Both Ratatoskr and the duck exchanged bewildered looks before looking around as if they were expecting to see someone else in the room. In the meantime, Gwenpool had climbed from the cot and walked over to the wall where she appeared to be trying to open up the wall somehow.
“Who’s Drez?” asked the duck.
“Nobody that you should worry about, Howard” said Gwenpool waving a hand and still trying to open up the wall. Howard blinked after sucking at his cigar.
“You know who I am?” asked Howard.
Gwenpool turned to face Howard the Duck. “You bet I do! I got my big break because of you”
Ratatoskr turned to Howard and said, “You know this girl?”
“Can’t say that I do” said Howard.
“Say,” said Gwenpool. “before I go I want to know one thing; who rules Sakaar in your version of reality?”
“I suppose that proves you’re not from around here if you don’t know that” said Ratatoskr after a brief pause. “The Warbound took over this place five-six months ago”
“How do you plan on leaving here? “ asked Howard to Gwenpool.
Gwenpool flashed a smile at Howard. “Like this”
Before Howard or Ratatoskr could do much more than gawk at the strange young woman, Gwenpool vanished through the wall. Both Howard and Ratatoskr gasped. Ratatoskr ran up to the wall to feel it but it was just a solid wall. Ratatoskr spent a few moments examining the wall to see how Gwenpool had opened it but didn’t find any evidence to explain how it had been opened
“People come and go in the strangest of ways, Toto” said Howard.
------
Gwenpool found herself in a white void as she had expected. She was in a place where she had been before but this version of The Gutter was a little different from the one she knew from the comics. Instead of comic pages floating here and there there was what looked like webpages in little windows floating everywhere.
“Now back to where I was hopefully “ mumbled Gwenpool as she walked among the windows of webpages. It took Gwenpool quite a while to find the correct webpag; it was a webpage that showed nothing but a wall of text. It took the Deadpool wannabe –
“Whoa there fella” said Gwenpool. “I'm nothing like Deadpool. I’m much better than a meme quoting guy who regularly breaks the fourth wall”
Yes, I see. You’re nothing like Deadpool despite the fact you look like him and break the fourth wall.
“Deadpool only breaks the fourth wall” said Gwenpool. “I shatter the fourth wall. Do you ever see Deadpool or anyone else access the gutter like I can?”
With the possible exception of She-Hulk? No.
“Okay, I’ll give you that” said Gwenpool.
Without further ado, Gwenpool slipped into the webpage by peeling it back like you would turn a page in a book or comic book.
Gwenpool emerged into a long corridor. She looked up and down to see that the corridor was totally devoid of people (or aliens for that matter). Coming to a quick decision, Gwenpool headed down the corridor to her left.
The corridor itself was carpeted by a long rug that had an ornate design on it. The rug was chiefly red along with all the hues of red. The corridor had few windows in it that showed Gwenpool that she was indeed in the city of Sakaar…or she assumed that it was the city of Sakaar for it didn’t look like any city on Earth.
Eventually Gwenpool did run into a person that was busy looking at a sizable tablet they were holding. The person was an elderly alien woman that vaguely resembled the kind of alien you might see on the original Star Trek show. Gwenpool assumed that the alien was elderly based on all the wrinkles on her face. The alien was beautiful despite all the wrinkles with high cheekbones. The skin of the woman had a blueish tint to it and she had a slightly bigger forehead than humans. The alien was wearing a simple gown that was white, almost blindingly so. The alien woman was a head taller than Gwenpool. The two women walked passed each other without comment. Gwenpool was sure that the alien wasn’t even aware of her in the first place.
The corridor turned right soon after and the corridor ended in glass doors that led to a street. Gwenpool exited the glass doors and stepped into the street. The street was a dirt path almost as wide as a two-lane highway back on Earth.
The street had almost every alien race in the Marvel Universe walking up and down it. There were even a few brood here and there. There were other humans but not that many compared to other races.
Gwenpool didn’t see any familiar faces until she made it two city blocks away from the building she had walked out. There was Gwen being escorted by two guards walking in the opposite direction; the direction that Gwenpool had came from. It was easy to spot Gwenom really. If Gwen saw Gwenpool she decided not to notice.
Gwenpool paused and faded into the crowd and soon started to follow Gwenom and her escort from a distance.
-----
Gwen walked down the street with her two escorts. They were heading towards the arena which was the biggest structure on Sakaar (as well as the tallest). The arena was located in downtown Sakaar along with other tall buildings; what these tall buildings were a mystery to Gwen since she didn't went anywhere else but to her private chambers and to the arena and back.
I'm hungry came Venom's voice in her head.
Big surprise there replied Gwen. Do you think about anything else?
Of course said Venom. It's... just hard for me to think straight when I'm hungry
We can't eat the guard said Gwen. The Blue Meanie will probably be upset if we eat one of his elite guards. So deal with being hungry
I'm glad you don't get so upset about eating live
food anymore said Venom.
I'm getting used to it said Gwen. I'd be lying if I said I feel completely comfortable about doing it though
