The Occult (And Wicca!!) Club in: The Delicious Curse of Mac’Rothulhu! The Wicca (And Occult!!) Club in: A Delicious Halloween Adventure! chapter 2 by Paok

I WELCOME YOU ALL... TO THE OCCULT CLUB!” The booming voice belonged to Amy Lesion (not her birth name), self-titled Mistress of the club. Her commanding voice was intensified by her all-red, demonic outfit: red lipstick, eyeshadow, and impossibly long red eyelashes framing burning red eyes like lashing flames. Her dress, featuring a red leviathan cross, draped down to her scarlet stilettos.

Um, you mean the Occult and Wicca club, right?” The timid, mousy voice belonged to Cara Haywood, Vice President, a blonde girl wearing enough colors to fill an art gallery. Her bangs were covered in clips and ornaments, and she wore a flowing tie-dyed cloak of swirling rainbows. It looked like she’d smashed her face into a tray of face-paint.

The third in the clubroom, Ben Plumpton, groaned. “I can’t believe I’m missing the costume party for this.” He adjusted his Luigi hat and returned to his Finance textbook, picking at his fake mustache. He wished he’d brought Halloween candy. Anything but this.

Amy raised her hand. “IMPATIENT FOOL. THE FRIVOLITIES OF THE NIGHT PALE IN COMPARISON TO OUR DARK RITUALS.”

Ben rolled his eyes. “Why do you talk like that, Meredith?”

I HAVE INSTRUCTED YOU... BENJAMIN... NOT TO CALL ME THAT.”

Cara whispered to Ben: “I heard that’s, um, legally not her name anymore.

Big whoop,” Ben whispered.

SILENCE. WE BEGIN. NOW.”

She reached into her spiderweb-covered handbag and pulled out a gnarled red tome. On its face was an Eye of Horus and the shining text: “BOOK OF THE (soon-to-be) DEAD. Translation by P. Ogier.” She flipped through the golden-edged pages to “Teleportation Curse.”

THIS CURSE,Amy howled,CALLS UPON THE POWER OF THE ANCIENT BLOOD-STAR GOD, MAC’ROTHULHU: SUMMONABLE ONLY ON HALLOWEEN. WE WILL TELEPORT DIRECTLY TO THIS COSTUME PARTY, MAKING AN UNFORGETTABLE ENTRANCE.”

Cara piped up. “Um, Amy... I think I know a similar Druidic spell?” She reached into her cloak and pulled out a hand-made, twine-bound folio, “The Celtic Spelltic,” and leafed through it. “Here! Teleportation Spell. We all get in a big circle, hold hands, and chant-”

NO. WE SHALL NOT CHANT. HALLOWEEN IS NOT FOR WICCAN HERESY.”

But we never get to do my spells Cara mumbled sadly to herself.

Undisturbed, Amy arranged the ingredients across a pentagram - a blood vial, rat bones, ground spider molts - and began to chant:

O, TIRIO TOKAMIA

ZITO TOKAI

O, METAFERE KOSMOS

METRION HOTUUM!”

Sparkles of light rose from the pentagram, swirls of fog spiraled around the trio, while Cara shivered in fear and Ben muttered something under his breath. With a bang, the room vanished.

When they came to, all seemed normal. All seemed as it was before... Except for a bright purple pumpkin-shaped bowl of candy on the table.

IT IS DONE.” Amy shouted. “MAC’ROTHULHU HAS BEQUEATHED US… CANDY.”

Wow…” Cara stared at it. “Amazing, Amy… I’ve never seen a spell work so well before. B-but, wait, did it really work? Weren’t we supposed to teleport?”

Ben laughed. “A magic trick! Wow, Amy - I almost believed you for a second there.”

FOOL. IT WAS NO MAGIC TRICK. IT WAS THE POWER OF MAC’RO-”

OKAY, we get it.” He reached for a piece of chocolate. “I was starving, anyway.”

Is this, like, magical candy?” asked Cara. “Is it safe?” She grabbed one. “Wow. It even has an expiration date.”

Amy sighed triumphantly and joined the feast.

~~~
Some curse.” Ben mused, stuffing his face. “Praise Mak-Ro-Tooloo.”
Hm…?” Cara frowned. “This one tastes kinda weird?” She spit out the half-chewed chocolate and picked at her teeth, finding tiny white specks, as sharp and hard as bone. “Did I chip a tooth? Urgh. I knew this candy was a bad idea.” Then she noticed a red splotch in the center of the chocolate. “Is this cherry? It doesn’t taste like cherry. What’s this bit, Amy?”
Mmm…” Amy groaned, roused from her food coma. Her face was covered in chocolate, and her cheeks were still stuffed. “Makwohuwu’s… Spathe Dutht...”
Huh. Okay. Well, It tastes weird, so I’m not gonna finish it.” She put it down, but just as quickly, Amy snatched it and stuffed her face.
Thankkkhh.”
Now that you mention it,” Ben said, “mine’s kinda gritty. Like factory dirt, or gravel, or something. Tastes coppery. You can have the rest, Amy.”
The two watched as Amy, barely awake, shoveled handfuls of candy into her mouth, sucking her fingers. Soon the purple bowl was empty, but not quite - she shoved her face in, and licked it all around until it was sparkling clean. She reclined and sighed happily, lost in a sugary daze.
Huh?” Cara said, glancing at Amy’s book. “It says here the curse enslaves three young souls to Mac’RoThulhu. Are we…?”
Mmmm… Fear not…” Amy groaned. “An eternity of service to Mac’RoThulhu… Is awesome…” She began to snore.
Maybe,” Ben pondered, “You can use other people’s souls?”
It doesn’t work that way, Ben,” Cara sighed. “You don’t understand magic. Amy only cares about the Occult. Why am I the only one at this school who likes Wicca?”
No,” Ben said, rising to his feet. “You can sacrifice other people’s souls.”
Sacrifice? It doesn’t say sacrifice.”
Heh,” Ben smirked, crossing his arms. “These books – they’re so poorly translated. This word? F’thoomare? It means ‘sacrifice’. Not ‘serve’. It’s Sumerian slang.”
Cara rolled her eyes. “Okay, scholar. And how do you know that?”
Because,” Ben said, his body beginning to shimmer, “4,000 years ago, I coined it.” He glanced at the clock. “Ah, Halloween is over. My lord calls. So long, girls - I had so much fun.” He snapped his fingers, and in a blinding flash of light and smoke, he vanished.
