"Where is everyone by the way? It's lunch hour isn't it?" Trish asked, looking around and noticing how the only ones around for lunch time were she and Olivia while quite a few men could be seen relaxing and eating the lunch in their assigned zone of the dining hall.
"Dunno, maybe they're all hard at work" Olivia shrugged, too excited about her new work adventure to bother finding anything suspicious "Want to have a look around? We still have like 20 minutes before Shauna comes back"
"I guess, it would be nice if we could meet someone and ask them what is working here like... ugh let me get a glass of water first, this smoothie had a terrible flavor at the end" Trish said as she moved to the water dispenser. Superfood or not, she found that metallic sort of aftertaste just disgusting.
"We can always just ask Shauna later"
"She didn't look like she wanted to talk much about it" Trish said remembering that jumpy behavior she had as she finished her water, but maybe she could tell them where all the tiny women gathered at lunch "Anyway I'm done, let's go"
There wasn't much to see as they moved around in their specified sidewalk checking some of the places where Shauna hadn't taken them. It was just your typical boring cubicle setup, just that most of them seemed to have attached in different places another tiny cubicle where a shrunken person would work in. Some were placed on the floor, some were placed on the normal sized desk and some were attached close to the normal sized drawers.
"Which one would you prefer?" Olivia asked her friend
"I don't know, but why do they have a separate dining room if we spend the day so close?" Trish wondered "and we haven't seen anyone our size yet, just more men still working"
"Maybe they are in a women only all hands meeting? .. Oh crap, look at the time" Olivia shrugged again until she noticed it as already 12:26 and Shauna would be waiting for them back in the dining hall.
"Let's go back then" Trish suggested and Olivia nodded. On the way back they didn't find any other shrunken colleague which started to worry Trish a bit. Despite reducing the size of part of its workforce Hamilton was still a big company, it should be bustling with activity! And it was, but only from normal sized men apparently. It didn't make sense that they were yet to find a single idle shrunken employee.
However as she started to think about Olivia's early question she started to find something appealing about working so close to them, a weird and entirely alien feeling of comfort he couldn't describe nor understand. It felt so weird because the real answer to the question was "I would prefer to work away from any man" and she still felt that way, so she couldn't tell at all where was this strange feeling coming from.
The friends kept walking until they made it back, arriving 7 minutes after the agreed time and hoping Shauna wouldn't get mad about it.
What happens next?
