After the unpleasant meal, it checked once again for any exit and found none, slightly twitching as the reality of its situation started to sink in. With no food, no way to escape and no way for new sources of food to come in, it was doomed and all it could do was wait until anything in its fatal environment changed. It laid down on the cold surface and slept.

Mark got out of his old car and shivered a bit thanks to the cold morning, promising himself a good cup of coffee once he went back to the lab. He walked slowly, with no haste at all fulfilling his duty to check out each of the containers the team set up for a research about insectivore species in Eagleton, not the most glamorous job out there but something that could lead to important insights about keeping the surrounding ecosystems balanced and sustainable or who knows, finding an entirely new species if he was lucky.

And like it usually happens to people who do indeed get lucky, Mark had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn't hallucinating when of all things, a strange pile of goo was in one of the containers.

"What on earth is that?" he thought to himself, unable to associate the strange substance with anything at all, green transparent goo the size of a small cat that looked not like a weird prank some weird teenagers would make, but like the phlegm  of a huge animal that happened to cough right into the container. And eat the insect.

Not knowing what else to do, scientific curiosity got the best of Mark and he started touching the goo, making a quick check before cleaning up and probably taking a sample just to check what was that exactly made of. The surprise and shock were visible on his face when he noticed the goo was starting to move.

Deep asleep, it didn't notice the noises outside or the container opening, but the touches were enough to wake it up and notice something had opened the container and seemed to be attacking it with small with repeated prods. It remembered it was hungry, and whatever was attacking it, had a faint aroma of food.

It was scared, so it didn't think twice and took the aggresive option.

What happens next?
