The wind whipped around Billy’s head. There wasn’t a choice…He wasn’t going to risk being blown away to…to whatever was down the tunnel. With effort he flattened out and slowly pushed through the slated space until his bottom half was dandling free and only his torso was still in the vent. He tried to lower himself slowly and aimed for wat looked like a platform. He wasn’t close enough. Billy’s grip was slacking…he kicked his legs. Again and again… one, two, thr – Billy fell.
The momentum was just enough because he felt himself it the surface but immediately he fell through and then landed on…something. The air was thick with dust and the ground fell away as his feet and hands went through the loose gravely material.
What the?!
Billy didn’t have a chance to think on it because suddenly a stronger light spilled in down into the…Box? Billy looked around and saw what looked like plastic all around him going up to the half caved in ceiling where light was spilling in. Billy looked up but then everything jolted back and Billy fell along with the gravel. There was a moment of witlessness then CRUSH as gravity took hold and everting went this way and that. Billy was slammed into a corner and braced himself with his arms. He was now waist deep in the…the. Was that a wheat square?
Britany came down stairs in her short and t-shirt. She was still half asleep. It was too early and why was it so hot down here? Absent maidenly she went to the thermostat and turned on the fan. After waiting for the cool air to start flowing she went to the pantry and grabbed the box of All Bran Cereal. Carrying the box haphazardly by her hip she didn’t even look at the top as her hand dived in pushing past the cardboard top and grabbed a fist full of cereal.
Billy felt the box sway forward and back like a ship at sea. It was just about to figure out where he was when the ceiling caved in and a monster SLAMBED into the chalky ground. The crunching sound was defining. Billy felt something hit him and for a second we was caught up and lifted out of the gravel but then fell free falling back into the cavity. Blinking through the grit and dust Billy thought he saw pink painted fingernails as the massive object pulled out into the light followed by the sound of CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUCH, after it disappeared over the edge. A second latter everything vibrated hard, landing on something and then went still.
Brittney set the box of cereal down and reached over to a cabinet to get a bowl. Pulling down one the teen tipped the box over and poured out a stream of the brown and tan grains.
Billy didn’t have long to reflect on what had just happened. He scurried up to the heist point of the cereal pit and tried to look up into the light. He couldn’t see anything but the kitchen light above then – WOW, everything pitched to the side and Billy was smothered by an avalanche.
Britney finished poring the cereal and setting the box down turned to go to the refrigerator to get some milk.
Billy was stunned. He was surrounded and smothered by…by cereal. No but it …no. He could breathe and wasn’t being crushed. Flexing he was able to move. His tongue licked at the dust now covering his face and mouth. It was sweet like with honey and oats…SHIT! Billy started to move trying to crawl/swim to the surface.
