Billy had an idea that he could shrink that cat. If Buttons was smaller he would likely shed less. That might make him more tolerable. But also if Billy admitted his true motivations…really just wanted to freak the little monster out.
Looking outside his room he didn’t see the cat. Billy knew that if he looked for the thing it would hid from him. That’s what cats do. But he also knew that cats were creatures of habit. His mom loved it that Buttons would greet her every morning. His mom always said Buttons curled up on the unused side of her bed in the early morning and sometimes…if the cat chose to do so…would snuggle with her and his purring was a wonderful way to wake up in the morning.
So all Billy had to do was wait until the early morning and then zap Buttons when he visited his mom’s room. Getting ready for bed Billy put on an over sized T-Shirt and a pair of boxers.
Billy was so excited he could hardly sleep. He said his phone to give him a buzz early in the AM before anyone else would be awake. Billy did sleep a bit and his dreams were exciting with a Honey I Shrunk the Kids theme to them. Of course in the dream you never really got hurt or squished or anything. All too soon he felt the BZZZZ, of his cell phone.
Getting up Billy grabbed the remote from the wall charger and hit the – button three times; better to zap the cat once rather expect it to stay still while he held the remote on it. Billy crept out of his bedroom. As he expected it was still dark but the other bedrooms, except for Katlin’s, had their doors open and he could see just a hint of daylight coming into the call through the open doors. Walking as carefully as he could, Billy passed both his sister’s bedrooms, and then Katlin’s and finally was at the master bedroom, where his Mom slept. Her door was open wider than the others. A good sign Buttons was already in there.
Creeping in Billy looked into the darkened room and saw the lump that was his mom on one side of the bed closest to him. He had to venture in deeper to see if he could look over her and find the cat. His mom was snoring which made it hard for him to hear if Buttons was there. He leaned over his mom to look for the cat. “Where are you,” Billy whispered. He saw a shadow on the bed that could be the cat. Taking aim he was about to push the button when his mom snorted and rolled over. Startled Billy took a step back stepping on something furry and heard a MEOWWWW! Buttons sprang up biting his leg causing Billy to go forward where he tripped on something else on the floor. Billy threw the remote up into the air. He tried to catch it and for one second he was fumbling with it but Immediately he felt something push him away and he lost the remote and fell backwards.
Billy wasn’t sure if it has been second or minutes but he realized he was now on his back laying down. Sitting up he looked around and saw that there was much more light in the room now. Billy’s brain just started to register that something was off. Eyes going wide he looked around. He got up and spun around looking in all directions. He stopped and looked up at the bed. He had to look UP at the bed.
BILLY HAD SHRUNK HIMSELF!
At the same time as Billy’s world was coming apart there was definingly loud BURURURURURURU! His mom’s alarm clock had just gone off.
