“I don’t have time for this!” Billy hissed followed by coughing. Damn. I think I swallowed some of the poison. I need – Billy stopped thinking when he felt a gentile breeze. That was…Looking around Billy saw an air vent grating just behind the toilet. He had been so busy trying not to dye he had completely missed it. Even better, Billy saw that it didn’t look the poison had reached it. Maybe the vent had pushed the poison back before it had settled but it didn’t matter. He had a way out!

Using the paper, Billy set it down and then standing on it, squished it together with his feet then spread apart, squish together, then spread apart. In this method he shuffle-stepped his way across the poison covering the tiled floor until he got to the clean zone. Jumping off Billy ran toward the vent. It was huge and dark but it was better than out here where he was nearly squashed like a bug by his own mom. The air coming from the vent was soft and cool. Thinking that was a good sign Billy reached out and with a jump grabbed the bottom of the grate and pulled himself up. “OH!” Billy said pulling until he could swing a leg up. “I need to work out more.”

Now just inside the vent Billy looked down the dark passage. It wasn’t far until the light did not reach. Suddenly Billy wasn’t so sure this was a good idea. Swallowing Billy stood up and padded his way forward into the darkness.
