Billy tried to crawl away but his torn, and battered muscles weren’t responding to him like they should. His lungs were also burning from the exertion, black spots filling his vision. Suddenly a sharp pain picked Billy up under his chest and he went sailing through the air to crash back down on the cold floor. It took several moments but Billy blinked and came to awareness that he…he was now some distance away. He saw the massive car sized foot lift up and partially disappear beneath a cascade of fabric. Billy rolled over onto his back gasping in air with his bruised and battered lungs. Out of the corner of his eye he noted something move. Billy looked up in horror as another bare foot rose up into the air and fell down right across him OMPH! The middle of the foot landed on and compressed Billy’s belly and midsection, partially grinding onto his hip bone…SPEW Billy’s compressed stomach spat up everything it had inside of it which wasn’t much.

Patricia idly felt around for his other slipper. For one second her toe caught it but it fell away. She continued to sip her coffee and ended up crossing the un adorned foot over one knee. Meanwhile across from her Kaitlin was already staring at her cell phone. “Anything going on, Honey?” Patricia asked not hiding the bit of sarcasm in her tone.

“Uh?” Kaitlin looked up distracted. “Um…no, no breakfast thanks, Mom.”

Patricia rolled her eyes. Kaity was in her own world. The younger woman stood up from her chair and immediately jumped up, “OW!” Patricia forgot her musings at the sound of her daughter’s cry. “I stepped on something. Kaity stepped back from the table and briefly disappeared bending down under the table’s edge. “What the…” the younger woman re-immerged holding a ragged figure in one hand. “What is this?”

Patricia blinked. She had no idea. Kaitlin dropped the toy on the table. Whatever it was it had some weight because the table clunked a little. Kaity rubbed her hands on her PJ bottoms. “Its all dirty and I think it leaked something.”

Patricia made a grimacing face as her daughter picked it back up and looked the toy over. “Is this Erica’s?” She asked.

“NO!” Patricia responded emphatically. “I’d never letter her play with something…like that. Its filthy.”

Kaitlin held the toy up but then pushed it out to her arms length. “Oh, it smells like feet.”

Not wanting the rest of the morning contaminated Patricia gestured to the corner, “Toss it into the garbage or something. If its one of your sister’s toys its seen its last days.” Patricia looked under the table herself to see if there was anything else down there that warranted attention. Looking back up and around she asked, “Did you see my slipper?”
