Franky sighed and collapsed prone. Not much to do but wait, it seemed.
Though… it was possible she could still have a bit of fun. Her eyes scanned the rest of the room. At her size, it was less a room and more a cavern—it seemed unfathomable such a space could even have a roof. It didn’t take long, however, for her to catch wind of Jason’s shoes. They were close, too—right next to the ottoman.
“Score…!” Franky enjoyed being tiny for all the typical reasons, but one of the secret reasons she enjoyed it was the potential for pranks. This prank was one that had been stuck in her head for a long while, and she wouldn’t be satisfied until she could execute it at least once.
It was simple: she would hide inside of Jason’s shoe and pretend to be a spider, roach, or any other creepy crawly. Once he goes to put the shoe on, her presence will make him pick the shoe up and shake it out, where she will fall out and reveal herself and the jape all in one! Fool-proof.
Franky slid down the side of Jason’s shin and landed on the ottoman. The uneven ground made her stumble, and she very nearly fell to the ground then and there. It wouldn’t have been fatal—long falls as a tiny weren’t the same as long falls as a human—but it would’ve knocked the wind out of her, and Franky was glad she managed to avoid it. The ottoman was shaped like a domino, and covered in a layer of fine, silky fabric. At her size, this meant handholds galore, and these were what Franky used to descend to the floor proper.
Once she alighted on the carpet, Franky became trapped in the tangle of overgrowth and forest that she’d been so keen on conquering these past few months. She knew the heading of Jason’s shoes, but the carpet fibers went up to her chest, and in some cases above her head. She had to physically push many of them aside, and there was no real solid ground to stand on.
“Ugh… I should’ve brought my needle.” Her trusty sword made traversing the carpet wastes easier; she could simply stab and slice at the stalks of carpet weave. But the trip wasn’t long, so she would have to suck it up and push forward.
Finally, Franky made it to the heel of Jason’s shoe, with a bushel of longer dark carpet threads she’d gathered to hopefully make her insectoid disguise more convincing. The shoe brand wasn’t anything she was familiar with, though Franky didn’t care much for fashion anyway. “Well… here goes nothing!”
The heel strap of the shoe hung decently far down, and with a running jump, she managed to grab onto the tassel. She lost a couple of carpet fibers in the attempt, but before long she was pulling herself up over the lip of the opening and tumbling downward. She landed on the rubbery insole with a *thump*.
“Ah-ha!” she cheered triumphantly. Franky got up, only slightly perturbed by the everpresent smell of years’ worth of accumulated sweat and wear. She took a few tentative steps across the rubbery insole and remarked the way her feet sunk into the surface a few minuscule inches.
“Wicked… cool…” Franky had to wave her hand in front of her nose. The scent wasn’t egregious but it was… potent. It would definitely take some getting used to. She surveyed the rest of the shoe and pondered. Now that the hardest part was complete, the second hardest part had arrived: selecting her hiding space. The heel was arguably the safest bet, since she’d be most visible and had the highest probability of being spotted and hopefully confused for a bug. The ball of the foot was another good call, just deep enough to be a surprise, but still close enough to the mouth of the shoe to abort the mission if things go awry. The furthest end of the shoe at the toe felt like it came with the most risk, but also had the highest potential to *really* put his knickers in a twist.
